Obi-Wan TPM & AOTC Lightsaber

If I remember the story correctly:

The TPM saber was made of aluminum and had a brushed aluminum finish.

Molds were made and a lightweight resin version was made for AOTC except it was chromed and instead of the aluminum finish it had a chrome finish.

Ewan loved this lightweight chrome saber and it's seen 99% of the time onscreen in AOTC. An all metal chromed 'hero' saber was also made for publicity, closeups, and photography.

The sabers are identical save a few minor details.

Ooohhhh....

THAT thing that we know you're talking about....

I always like to think that he somehow got the saber back from the bottom of that pit, since why on earth would a Jedi decide to make an exact duplicate of their original saber?

But then, I've read a ton of arguments from some internet forum where everyone says that Obi-Wan really did craft a new one that was exactly like his old one.

Still, I will stick by my logic no matter what anyone says.

And that's some great info on the sabers, Mr. Kenobi! Never knew about that :)

If I remember correctly....

Obi always liked that saber except for the finish and the holes through the pommel cubes
(he often refered them to "useless and cosmetically undesirable")

He never changed it because he feared the Council would think he was vain.

When Maul kicked it over the edge, he turned a negative into a positive as Jedi often do and rebuit the same saber but added the refinements he always wanted.

Was this like a deleted scene or something lol

Probably in the comics or books or something else that doesn't count. :angel

I think all the real world info above is pretty correct. There was an all metal hero for TPM, it was actually given to Ewan. They have resin casts for AOTC leading to the solid pommel cubes and the o-ring under the emitter section becoming a hard step. They vacuum metalized them so they were shinier. I think, though, that the existence of a metal AOTC specific version has been called into question. I think the only metal hero that exists is the TPM that is owned by Ewan.

They did make a metal version for ROTS that had an odd cap on the emitter held on with hex screws. I remember seeing it somewhere in person, either at the FIDM Dressing the Galaxy exhibit or at the Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit. I think originally Obi-Wan was going to lose that saber in the beginning of Ep III and then make the ANH looking one but that was all cut out.

In TPM, if you look closely, Obi wan has his lightsaber hanging from his belt on Naboo in the scene where the Viceroy is arrested, so he apparently got it back just after he killed Maul.

Yup, sure can.

Well I'll be damned... So what of Darth Maul in the Visionaries comic? If Obi got his saber back, he had to of noticed Mauls body not being there.

That's the thing about EU. Doesn't have to coincide with the movies. Although, personally, I loved that concept art of Maul, and likely would have been better than Grievous who was a boring character.

Visionaries was a book of "what if's" it's not canon.

Most EU actually DOES have to coincide with the movies. The movies are canon above all else.

As far as I know there was no AOTC specific metal hero. They used the TPM hero saber and the chromed stunts. Most publicity photos show a chromed stunt.
