Obi Wan Disney + binoculars

The one from the Attack of the Clones was child size. I have it somewhere.

The one from GE looks more true to size. If interested it is 6” at the widest point. Not saying it is accurate to the screen used one or if they were able to 100% copy the original to the series. I do know the people on the show do a lot of research for things like this. Anyhow, if you want to see some better images of the GE toy, here they are…

Is that a red lens "plate" over the front or just a reflection?

It sure does seem to be a real world object I’ve seen. Can’t quite place it but I keep looking under old photo equipment rangefinders.

I'm thinking something like this?

So here is my theory.. based on nothing. I believe makes it less of a theory and more of a pull-out-of-my-ass guess.

I believe the Attack of the Clones macrobinoculars were made with some sort of found item. However, I further believe the one from the Obi Wan series are scratched built to replicate the ones from Attack of the Clones. I further speculate that the designs have differences based on lack of original reference material and/or deliberate choices in the design process to change details for production reasons.

In short, use caution and don't use one version to try to replicate the other if you are looking for accuracy.

Okay I got my set from Disneyland and I have to say it's pretty good for $40. It is plastic of course and needs mods but it's pretty cool. One review really made a big deal about the Binos being "flimsy". They are not. They made it sound like they would fall apart. Nope, they are fine and screaming, "Mod me!" I wish they included a Naboo Royal starship for the holo thingy but still fun, dialog, sounds. The communicator is actually really cool, good sounds, dialogue, etc. The Binos are great. Easily modifiable, loads of potential.

The communicator next to the Disney version is from one of our members who made an awesome 3D model with the removeable sample tray. At first the Disney one seems small but I have the original razor used and the Disney one is just a hair smaller, and the 3D one is just a hair bigger. Both pretty awesome.

I am showing it off with my Roman's AFB Ep IV Obi saber. I am working on a hybrid Obi belt for my eventual life size Obi costume.

On the binos both knobs spin. You can look through them, but no magnification.

Hello there,
Let's try to shed some light over this topic. Here you will see LFL image references. Clearly, macrobinoculars was made of wood. Only found parts I identified so far were the plastic nuts from a cable gland. I also found out that those white buttons from the bottom, were shared with Bail Organa ID tag. M3 stainless steel socket screw were easy to spot. Could be inspired in some kind of stereo viewer? yes. Could be inspired in a game pad control? yes. After 20 years, It is very hard to know. Contacted both concept artist from that time. Only one of them answered me. Didn't recall that prop.

So, I modeled it, based on available found parts and estimations.

I wish to identify the "Basin Sink Overflow Cap" part like and see more of this prop in the tv show. Don't hesitate in contact me If you have any question.

Model updated due new references:

I can confirm that this prop is not the Attack of the Clones one. It is totally new. They replicated the legacy prop as we all did.
