Obi ROTSish Hardware Saber

Since the ROTS/Disney+ saber is all the rage, here's my version that isn't accurate to either one!

And here's a WIP which will be slightly more accurate, since I won't be using the clamp.

I found one of the basic non-electronic flick out blade Obi ROTS toy sabers at a thrift shop the other day. I modified one a while back with promising results, but it was stolen from the hobby shop I had it on display at. That wasn't a big deal as I didn't leave anything there that I couldn't afford to lose. Anyway... Pics to come.

I probably should have taken a picture BEFORE I cut it apart, but you know... Hindsight. The saber seems to be in two scales: Oversized on one end to fit the blade, and undersized on the other for no apparent reason. I cut it in half, the top half probably going to some sort of FX style saber and the bottom being the base of what I will be building on. I had to cut off the end of the pommel to split the halves of the remaining piece and remove the belt clip. Since this will be a display only piece, I likely will just keep the molded in covertec without modification. While I would like to find a suitable piece for the forward grip, I'll likely end up just using a length of washing macine drain hose.

Got a little work done. As much as I'd like to have kept the activation band, it was a bit too short. Also, given the materials I have to work with, the forward grip won't be entirely accurate.

The shoulder under the wind vane is too short, the notch in the neck is in the wrong place, and it's a bit long. I may revisit it in the future.

The emitter is a hybrid of the ROTS and ANH designs.

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more that neck bugs me. It's definitely gotta go. Luckily the emitter was just press fit. I've also already broken the neck loose from the rest of the saber. I also need to figure out what to use for the greeblies on the activation band.

Shortened the copper section of the neck.

There's so much wrong with this, I think I'll just call it done, except for the greeblies.

This turned out so great! I love how it looks with just the grip rings and no grooves
Thanks, but it's pretty much dictated by the washing machine drain hose I used. To be clear, that's the saber from the first page of this thread with a new clamp.

I decided to sell the saber above (post #33) to a coworker who's father is a Star Wars fan. Immediately after agreeing on a price, she was fired (typical!). I just went ahead and let her have it. What else was I gonna do? Someday I'm going to manage to sell a saber again and actually get paid for it!
