Obi ANH pommel replicas

So I just have a question. With all the talk regarding Russ's new grenade replicas, I was curious about the skink knob. I know that he is going to be making his version next, but just wanted to know something. I have one of Romans 3 park knobs and understand his 3 pice is great as well. I thought his were close to perfect am I wrong. Do folks desire one with the H or C on the end cap? It's nice to have choices!! What were the inaccuracies if any with the Romans lates skink knob?

I'm no engineer, but I'd say the only inaccuracies of Roman's latest sink knob were the materials. Real sink knobs are mostly plastic. I believe Roman's was aluminum.

The handwheel used on the prop has a brass top cap with a thread - it's chrome plated.
The remaining three pieces are plastic.

I've spoken with Russ this week concerning the upcoming run of these replicas (he has my original) and have a few ideas regards the top cap.

Also, we're hoping to include the 'REG DES' marking which is in raised letters on the bottom ring.
Of course, this is all a way off.

The top brass cap and the tube with the raised ring on the bottom hold the centre section with the cubes in place once they're both screwed together.

Good point. How many people plan to leave their caps off their saber. I may do just that. haha. All for accuracy I suppose. Hey can anyone post a pic side by side of t Roman and a real one?

I would love to have the C and H on the end caps. That would rock!!!

Dave :)

Well, if you want to be accurate you'd leave OFF the top cap insert entirely, since in the only pictures which show that area it is missing. ;) :p

Here's a couple pics of my real AS handwheel next to one from Roman's latest run.

Excellent. Thank you. I love the pic and have actually just bought one of these 4 piece versions from another board member. I imagine it is exactly like my 3 piece with the exception that the cap comes off. Handy depending on which way I want to display my saber .
Chingon what is your opinion on trhe accuracy of the Roman since you have both?

Is yours a "real handwheel" or the CORRECT handwheel? In direct comparison, Roman's seems a little tall and narrow.

Chingon's real handwheel on the left is a very nice correct AS. :)

The Roman looks very nice. I expect Russ/Howard will look to also capture the slight taper seen on originals, and hopefully they will get a nicer radius on the top edge of the brass top piece (I tried to make a bunch of noise about that at the time but it seemed to go right over everyone's heads :lol ), and perhaps improve on the apparent cube width, side wall angles and the upper cube wall and above-cube 'groove' arrangement.

Would you agree that its the closest made so far...other than one offs?
Man, I'd love to get my mits on the correct AS handwheel.

I'd like to see a run of vac metalized plastic sink knobs done.
IMO it's always better to try and replicate the found piece than to replicate a saber part.
