Hello everyone, it's been a while but I'm getting back to creating some new costumes. I'm just starting the work on the costume for the Red Viper that is from his fight vs the Moutain. I was inspired to actually do it after seeing this fellow RPFer's start with the spear http://www.therpf.com/f9/prince-oberyns-spear-game-thrones-215905/
I will be doing things differently than him in a few places, but it's still a great start for me to work off of and he had already found the perfect spear reference photo.
One of the first changes is how I'm going to make the snake. Instead of using worbla I'd like to make it a solid piece out of clay using an idea someone linked to his build log on facebook for the scales.

I also was concerned about the spear tip's strength. I'll likely do some fight choreography with this and a 1/4" MDF blade is pretty weak. One time clipping the ground with the tip and it's going to be destroyed. This has led me to a few interesting places. First I decided to make the blade out of 1/2" MDF for some extra strength. It'll require a lot more sanding work to get the shape right but once done it should look essentially the same. After rough cutting/sanding my spear shape and being really happy with it I decided that I'm going to use it to make a mold and cast the spear tip. This way I can build more than one in case of con carnage and it also lets me dip into cold casting for the first time. I'm going to go visit my local Smooth On distributor today for supplies.
Here is my rough cut/sand of the spear tip. I'm going to work it all the way down to having that center line like in the reference photo.

Here is my duct tape mannequin front and back. It looks like I have boobs because of how it's stretching the shoulders on the hanger. I'll get it on an actual mannequin base before using it.

I have the hardwood dowels for the spear body. Next I'm going to cut the slots for the spear tip to mount in and sand down the end to the right shape.
