O-rings and Rubber Shelfing Discoloring Gray Anodizing Question

On one of my sabers, the O-rings have about a 1/4" band around them on either side where the gray anodizing is noticeably darker looking. This same thing is occuring where the saber rests in it's cradle. Is there some way to polish this out or make the rest of the saber match? Thanks for your input.

Well, I don't know what was causing it, but mineral spirits seems effective after Comet, dish detergent and baking soda proved ineffective.
