I would just go with a black undercoat and mask it off with tape to paint your lines in the intersecting lines around 3 axes to make individual equilateral triangles. Weird thing though. I have been playing with Mini soccer balls and my screen used ball is a little smaller than the ones I use. Diameter is exactly 5"

I think it would be easier to paint the ball red first.

I'd try to prime the ball first. Spray paint it red. Then mask off the stripes, and spray paint it black.

Remove the masks and voila. No hand painting required.

I think. :lol

I tried to make one. The first run was a disaster ;) The spray paint still has not dried (three weeks later), never had this happen before.

I am going to try again with a different paint.

I don't know what kind of ball it is, but I think I read somewhere that it was a sports ball by Adidas or something like that. I could be wrong, going by second hand information that I read months ago.

Looking at my ball the red strips are definitely hand painted with a raised double coat and the black is a spray. There are partial finger prints in the red striping in two locations and that tells me that it might take a little more time to dry on the surface. I have no idea why. The red strip diameter is .5" and the black triangle has a rounded quality and come out at 3.25" per side with a 2.875 Base.

The Mini soccer balls they sell by me are 5.5 inches, but if you look online there are a few that are 5".

I made a bunch and sold em on ebay. The red lines on mine are a little to wide but all in all they turned out good.

Great Prop Moff Man, and he sells them for a great price. Did you use a 5" ball or 5.5"? if you use 5" can you let me know where you got them and the brand. The problem I'm running into during game play is the cracking and chipping of the paint. I was thinking about some other ideas for a bleached ball such as dyeing any thoughts?

Just ordered a new ball. The 5 inch ones are SIZE 1 soccer balls. I never new they came in sizes ;) You can get them 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 depending on the use. Anyway, size 1 is 5 inches in diameter.

I will try a different paint this time, one that will dry I hope.

I was just looking into this. More for play rather than display... What about screen printing? I'm not an expert on that but I would like to be able to bounce the ball without the paint chipping away.

Even better question: Why not fabric paint? You know, like the kinds you find at Advanced Auto Parts and AutoZone? Wouldn't they work?
