Nu Galacita in 1/2500th scale

Coby I was amazed when I saw the work you did for the Klingon BOP but this blows that away big time. hard to gauge scale on the ribs what is the thickness on the styrene ribs?

while trying to wrap my head around this project, i think my brain just melted. holy cow, i want more pics.

Coby ----- YOU RULE

I can't praise this model enough. It's way beyound awesome

I love to see WIP pics, so keep feeding us.

I'll look forward to the day when this kit will arrive at my door

Cheers
Niels

Brilliant as always. Thanks for showing the WIP photos.

I'm really interested in how you created the texture strips. Does it start out as a big sheet with a "random" texture on it or is each line and greeblie designated for a certain area and strip? Do you have any photos of this early stage?

I'll have to take some photos of that later. I haven't got the shop's camera here. The truth is that there are only 5 types of detail strips that I am using over the whole ship. The strips are 12" long and they are trimmed at random spots to give the whole hull an overall "random" detailing. I concede that I did "invent" detail but I couldn't really make it just like the one in the show. So technically this is an interpretaion of the Galactica mesh. I think it works.

There's some things that I wish were better but it isn't finnished and I haven't even started to "clean" it up. Hell there's a ton of stuff I haven't even drafted out yet.

OMG.. That looks unbelievable. . .

How will the kit be structured? I mean, how many pieces do you think?
Or have you even started considering it yet?

Amazing work..

Coby.... I just don't know where to begin... DUUUUUUUUUUDE.

My drool factor just went up a bit.

What's this Greg stated about the BOP?

I did a hinge kit for the Ertl Klingon Bird of Prey model. What it does is allow the wings to be positionable.

http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Templates/BOP_Hinge.htm

since it's been brought up I am having serious flash backs to that. If you look at the shapes of the ribs on the upper engine pods of Galactica you will see that some are nearly identical to the "baffles of the BOP.

That's the first time I've ever seen that BOP hinge, that's freaking amazing. And the Galactica is turning out great. Awesome.

That is really kewl. I can see why the Galactica parts are giving you flashbacks to the BOP.

Funny,... when ERTL came out with the BOP, and with the assistance of HandSolo, I cut my hinges (what I called the baffles) so that the were in the UP position (like the shot of the BOP over the whaling harpoon boat in S.T. IV). Then Bob (Hand Solo) painted and scribed them for me to make them look realistic. To show my lack of knowledge and talent with this,.. instead of dremeling to cut them,.. I used a box cutter. LOL.. but they came out almost clean. Thank goodness for Bob being near by to help me with it at that time or I probably would've really screwed the pooch on that kit. LOL. He ended up doing the engines too. He used something to make them look like they were glowing two different colors without being lit. I'll have to dig it out to show you what I mean. It turned out nice though.

I really love the positionable hinge baffles you did Coby. I have planned an Stdio Scale in the BOP in the near future. I would like to talk to you about doing the Hinges for it.

Now, back to this Galactica,...

It is 22.5 inches, right? So how hard would it be to make a 45 inch version in the future now that you have the specs down?

Bottom line....BRILLIANT WORK DUDE.

I remember that. We had to sand the cuts flush, but everything turned out alright. And the scribing part on the leading baffle we did because there weren't decals yet for that detail...

Yeah, considering how thick the plastic was in that area.

If I remember correctly, we used red and orange gels and a little medical tape to do the engine detail. We did the same with mine...and like yours...my bird's in storage.

That's one hella cool idea. I looked at those graphics for quite some time last night.

I couldn't agree more. This thing will be sweet. Coby, I'm having fun following this thread. Another work of art in progress by a Master.

I'm humbled guys. Thank you.

I just put in 8.5 hours on skinning 16 hull slices. That's the fastest time I've been able to do so far. I'm getting kind of wiggy now. The smell of resin is getting kind of disgusting to me. I didn't have time to take pictures. I'll get an update for that tomorrow.

Hey.

Put that stuff down and fetch yourself a beer or four. :thumbsup

I'm doing fine. I'm treating the Galactica like my job. I leave it alone after work hours. It helps. But I really SHOULD be wering a resperator. I hear the resin dust can really do a number on your lungs and brain.
