Nostromo research

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Well, looks like I've found a photo where you can see a leg, the blister & the hatch ! Hope it'll be useful to Space Jockey's blueprint project !
:)

Nice work! Looks like they took the same "immersive" Nostromo deck set design approach to the exterior sets too, as far as possible. Cool.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

DAMN!!! I didn't think this kit was that huge! I thought a little bigger than the old Halcyon... WRONG!!! Excellent workmanship JT!!!

Yeah, this is the old kit by that outfit who did all the 1/35 USCM stuff, right? This thing's so damned rare that for about ten years I thought it had turned out to be vaporware. Huge thing but needed a lot of work. Nice to see it getting said work!

Great work indeed to both. I'll try to get a sketch done today/tommorrow and figure this out in light of the new info.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

That is a great pic
And nice work spotting what it contained!

Tonight I have mated the front VTOL and retro engines to the nacelle, I am getting ready to float out the joints with a little spot putty, add more plumbing and detail, and pretty much finish up the starboard nacelle...
Looking great. Good to see you wore the right shirt for the job! I'm going to have to have one of these. Can you give us a hint on price yet so I can start getting some funds together?

I make these kits on a first come, first serve basis, and the reason I dont do runs, or stuff like that, or even announce it for sale in the junkyard, is it is just my wife and I that cast these.. And when I am not casting parts, or working on my own, or redoing a blown mold, I am shipping these out to people who enjoy the challenge of these. I get these kits out immediately upon receipt, as in 1 business day.. I go out of my way to make sure its stock full of the proper stock vinyl, metal tubing and rod, and packed in heavy nice boxes. If for some reason a part is missing, or something may be tweaked, I personally go down to the UPS store with more parts for the buyer out of my own pocket and answer any questions they have. So all in all, I try to make sure that this beast of a kit will be a fun experience. the price for rpf members is available upon request.
But actually, I will refrain from posting on the junkyard due to the fact I am not interested in the money , or mass producing these and this kit is a unique and rare model for true original ALIEN aficionados.

And I brighened up the recently posted "set" shot so you can see the details a bit better.

Going back to the blueprints and why they will not be 100%...Phase Pistol's images show a classic example. Note the orientation of the undercarriage doors in relation to the 'feet' between the two images, the full size set and the model. They are not the same and there is a 45 degree angle difference between the two. :)
Tricky (but interesting) stuff...

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

I hope you don't mind the veer in topic, but Dennis sent me some more pics of the big chap. He says that he's in the process of uploading 1.3GB of images, so I'd check his site often. I didn't even see the 'Aliens' link at the bottom of his page!

Out of respect for Dennis and his generosity, please do not repost these.

WOW.... what wonderful pictures. Dennis, if you're following this thread...thankyou. With the 30th Anniversary of the movie this year it's terrific to see all these pictures that have been shared this last couple of weeks. :cool

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

The pics you guys are posting here are incredible!! This thread keeps getting better and better! Thanks Phase Pistol, skinjob 66 and Clutch!!

here is a Nostromo Hull just out of the Mold 10 minutes ago, 60 ounces of resin used to make this, about the weight of a standard red brick.

Are you gonna rotocast the hulls at some point? Isn't the weight gonna be heck on the landing gear?

It is rotocast :lol but the kit comes with brass central rods for the landing gear, the brass is extremely strong, and easily supports the weight,

A HUGE thank you to you too JTP, this thread is great fun... and I don't talk about your NOSTROMO kit, one of the greatest things I've seen here with Steve & Richie's ALIEN eva suit project !!! (Can't wait to have a look at Space Jockey's Nostromo blueprints, too !!!)

Agreed, JTParker's model is looking fantastic. :cool Still working on the blueprints. With all the photo's over the last week or so I've been modifying the parts I had completed. But it's all good, makes for a better end result. Also I did a bit of sculpting work - a replacement sculpt for the Hot Toys Kane figure, which I've now posted in the junkyard.

I don't know if JTParker is still planning on putting Ash's blister on his model, but one tricky part is the lack of room around the forward landing leg to show both it and the airlock. I'll continue to work on it. :) On the latest photo's Dennis posted on his site there is an area just forward of the leg where it could be.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

There's the four-foot tall landing leg miniature, scanned from an old STARLOG.

My Vote goes to Stephen for the greatest thread I have seen here...Especially since we are having helmets made by him :love:love:love
