Nostromo research

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

So tonight I did not pour the Hull yet, BUT.....!!!!!!!!!

I did the rest of the main engines in ROTOCAST..By Hand! YIKES!

But it was well worth it. I have the main engine body Molds in a small particle-board box, to keep it all straight, Next I measured poured the resin in the mold, and started to hand rotocast..for 10 minutes... I kept doing it until the mold felt hot, no more sloshing in there, and BAMMM!! perfect engine pods.... 10 minutes of hand rotocasting sucks, but WOW it actually works. Perfect hollow parts with nice even wall thickness and detail.

Here is a pic of part of the engine assembly kinda sitting together for looks on my kitchen stove where I could get light for the camera...

This is looking pretty darn tasty, but my budget will not allow.
I'm a sad panda...:cry

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

And here's the docking platform top half, right out of the mold, complete with a little flash still on the part........

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Tonight got the main hull mold in its mother-mold, and almost ready to get the first prototype away!!! also re-cast a few small parts for better quality..

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

If there was an estimated price for this I missed it. I have to admit this is not my favorite ship but the kit looks amazing and I may have to break down if its somewhat reasonable.

There isn't Dade, I was just joking because at the moment I don't have *any* money! (It's tax time here in the UK - shudder!). :)

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Here is the Nostromo with her new hull, and some parts kinda sitting together.
The hull is from a hi-quality silicon mold, the only glitch was a slight bit of moisture in the bottom causing slight raised spots that can be skinned off with a razorblade, but WOW..for a first cast in years and years...this turned out great.

The Hull was hand roto-casted, with over 40 ounces of Polyurethane resin, it is extremely solid, workable, and heavy, like a brick with a hollow core. The next hull will be done with less, because so much is not needed I think.

Wow! Wish I had the money for that! It's the only AEF item I don't have.

I got lucky a few months back and got a TON of Egg chamber parts- and what I THINK are the masters for the kit.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Thanks to everyone for the positive response and emails. I will be pouring a second Nostromo starting Saturday, I hope someday I can build My own. I will be using "seconds" (slight errors) parts for my own. I plan to do awesome detail.

stay tuned for more pics on this thread, I will have a few little surprises here regarding custom-cast mod parts...keep the love going, we may finally have a good source for a large scale detailed Nostromo kit I have dreamed about since I saw ALIEN (the only "real"ALIEN movie) in the Theater in '79.

More pics coming tomorrow of more parts, including parts trees, landing gear struts, and tiny detail casting that go on this ship.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Great news and again outstanding work!!

I was just thinking how cool it would be to have one of your kits build to take to Wonderfest this year with the whole ALIEN theme there going to have this year.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

here I threw together some parts on a box to give it continuity,

a detailed close up of the raw roto-cast hull right out of the mold....
