Has anyone made Count Orlok's letter from Nosferatu?

There are a couple of nice screen shots of both the front and the back here.

Awesome, I guess i can stop working on my version. ;)
On the corner of the letter that wasn't in the shot, were you able to figure out the symbols or did you invent some? It looks like they fit in really well.

I noticed that a lot of the symbols were runic in origin, the film is German and (1922) and given the political situation in Germany at the time....runic stuff was gaining more popularity and was used more than once in art and visuals, so I went with Germanic runes for the missing bits.

Very nice work! :)

It's been a while since I've watched the documentary on the Kino edition (I think), but it's mentioned that one of the guys involoved in the making of the movie was into the occult.

As I recall, they talk a little bit about the letters possibly using symbols from a society that this person belonged to.

Unfortunately for some reason im once again experiencing problems uploading large files even though the forum should be able to accept them, I'm going to follow moderator advice and am looking into a filehost to get them up :)

Yep you are correct, I'm pretty sure it was the Thule Society you mean: Thule Society - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That makes all the sense - Thule was one of the most important Secret Societies in Germany at the time and as we can see the national socialist movement "drunk" a lot from it (three of the most important persons in the nazi regime were occultists).
- Very nice job you're doing with the letters. Thanks for posting -

I can't find a link I see there was a post removed has anyone made one of these? that i can download... great piece great film

Since we haven't heard from whitehammer I started working my own version of the letter. I stayed up late last night looking at occult books (a fun October night project) on this website and managed to finish a rough draft of the front of the letter (I hope to have something to share by Halloween). It does look like the creator of the original letter drew a lot of inspiration from the occult. I haven't been able to find matching seals, but the seals from The Key of Solomon are very similar in layout to the ones in the letter. Here are some examples of seals and symbols that I found:

Uh oh, looks like I'm a little late. I hope you don't mind that I share my version, whitehammer.
Here is the Front and the Back of the letter.
Printed and weathered:

(I printed it on a weird size of paper so the margins are a little off, 8.5"x11" should look better.)

To fold the letter-
With the front of the letter up, fold the top to the bottom and crease to find the middle, unfold.

Fold one side to the other and crease to find the middle, unfold.
Fold the sides in so they overlap in the middle.

This was a really fun project to research and draw. Thanks for the posters, whitehammer!

Hi conquerror_worm

You did a very good job on the letter - thanks. And thanks also for the "instructions" on how to fold the letter. On the screencap, to me, the letter looks a thick paper. What type of paper did you use to print yours? Thanks

You are all welcome for the posters, Ive printed my version on aged parchment but I'm grateful for the photos on how to fold it!! what a nice outcome for this project!
Just in time for Halloween too! yaaaaaaaaaaay! :D
