Noob trying Iron Man mk3

I'd like to say thanks to Dancin_Fool and JFCustom for firstly making the files that have enabled a complete noob like myself have a go at making an Iron Man suit.

I've fancied having a go at armour making ever since seeing some awesome Halo armours on the interweb but being a complete Iron Man freak and then finding theRPF with all it's amazing help and resources I thought I'd give that a go.

so I took the plunge, bought a load of EVA foam mats and a bunch of glue sticks and started having a play. Three helmet attempts later (all too small, doh!) I decided to change tack and do the body first and have managed to get quite far. It's by no means movie accurate but that's something I can work on over time.

Hopefully these pics will work for your viewing pleasure....

And this is roughly where I'm at...

Comments and criticisms more than welcome! :)

And today's fun was making a duck tape dummy to mount it all on, very strange asking the missus to cover me in tape!

Any progress?

Yes, lots, but really have been lazy updating this thread. I'm at painting stage now, it's not the best armour in the world but it'll do for my fancy dress birthday shindig. I had a complete nightmare with the helmet and have had to resort to buying a costume helmet, for some reason i just cant seem to make one to fit my mahoosive head. it will be something i'll revisit after the party.

So here are some pics of where it's up to...

Looks good but your pics are upside down...GM

Yup, not sure why my iPad is doing that!

Anyhoo, lots of painting been happening and I've found that the Vauxhall Flame Red I was using was far too orange but a dose of Citroen Wicked Red has made it look much better...

Looking good, I'm just starting mine arc reactor first not helmet (I know NOW not to try helmet early on) when you said helmet too small was it too narrow? mines not finished yet everything seems good bar the width. I'm pep'ing the helmet and doing a foam suit so I'm tempted to ease the 'ears' out slightly in the filler stage?

Also, did you scale the suit at at? If not how tall are you as the suit looks just right

Cheers, looking forward to seeing the finished thing

The helmet was a little narrow so I resized it and it fit ok until I made the back of the helmet at the top, I somehow mucked it up and it never fit again which was a right pain in the neck. I'll revisit it after my bday fancy dress as I'm right up against it time-wise now to get finished.

On the scaling side I was very very lucky, Dancin_Fool's files were exactly the right size for me so I guess I'm a good shape, lol

Tonight though I've been mostly spraying things various shades of red, gold and lacquering....

So the first outing went well. There are a few bits that need fixing and some upgrades I want to make but it was a great costume to wear...
