Hello RPF Community. I'm currently putting my hands on building my own MarkVI suit. First of all, I've been lurking the site for the past week doing research, and I'm overwhelmed with the work that you guys put into costumes. It also motivated me to take on the task. I'm currently taking a break right now, really tired, but I'm getting more excited the more my mask take shape.
I'm using the Pepakura method 'cause I think it will be a good method to start with. You guys are going to see me bump this thread A LOT so please check my thread if you don't mind 'cause most likely I'll have some questions. All feel free to put in some input and criticism 'cause both will surely help me out.
materials I have.
Evercoat Rage: lightweight body filler, high adhesion and non-clogging (it will save alot of sandpapers)
Evercoat Slick Sand: high build filling primer (it will make your project look great)
Evercoat Fiber Tech: kevlar reinforced filler, very high adhesion ( I'm going to use this to reinforce brackets, hinges etc.)
as for tools I picked up some from Harbor Freight
HVLP gravity feed spray gun
HVLP gravity feed detail gun
and a 2 hp 3 gal. compressor
I bought these because it will be alot more cost effective for this kind of project.
Materials bought for these project (cost)
US Composites polyester laminating resin 16 oz. - $20.20
Fiberglass cloth 8 sq.ft. - $6.90
Smooth-on EpoxAmite 101 Fast 20 oz.: laminating epoxy with 11 pot life (so I don't have to rush like with the poly resin), 6-8 hr curing time - $26
