No sew buttons? Buttoneer?

I'm one of those ADD prop people that get halfway through a project...squirrel!!!

I have decided to sew all of the scales to a suede jacket since the holes are too big to ring together.

As a kid I remember the Buttoneer. You push a plastic fastener through the fabric. Are there any other shortcuts? I have thousands of scales.

Part of the time is re-threading the needle with my bad eyes...

Buy either a needle threader or spiral eye needles. Both make threading needles much faster.

Thanks Lynn. I bought upholstery thread which is much stronger and easier to thread. I tried larger needles but they were much harder to poke through the materiel.

If you are using upholstery thread, have you tried upholstery needles? Typically, they are sold on a card with needles that will sew canvas, duck, and leather.

You need leather needles. They are made to go through leather. Also you can use an awl to premahe holes to sew through.

http://m.harborfreight.com/quick-stitch-sewing-awl-91812.html I've always wanted to pick this awl up to try out. It may be of some help. The reviews say the needles need to be sharpened though.

Instead of an awl, I've used a Dremel drill bit of the appropriate size.
