Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

This is what I knew was going to bother me the most. People like this.

Nike Mag Back For The Future 2011 Brand New Available Only In The US Ltd. 1500 | eBay

I can already tell people are going to say "well that happens" and "deal with it" because I know that happens and I can deal just fine. Which basically drives down the numbers for people who genuinely want them.

It's a panic thing on ebay, like someone seeing that someone got $600 for the ceramic shoe so the bustle into the store and buy as many as they can to make more profit.

Which like the shoe, drives the price up from those who are buying it for either a collectibility standpoint, or a charitable standpoint.

When I worked at Guitar Center in 2005, there was this limited edition Jimi Hendrix guitar, it was about $7,000. And there was a crazy amount of hype behind them. People went nuts and did everything they could to buy one, sell them to customers, and almost immediately they were all sold out to people who had planned on flipping them, not to collect.

After one month roughly 1/3 had ended up on ebay and not one sold because they were all jacking up the prices. And they are still having trouble selling them.

Meanwhile you have something like this that people want, and while the crazy bids DO go to charity, you have just flooded the market with something you thought you were going to make a buck on, and they are going to sit on ebay for the next year while you could have just been looking for a job or going to work. Not to mention all that time wasted since they could have gone to someone who really wanted them, someone who had xxxx to donate to charity to get them, but you had to outbid them by xxxx+$5 just so you could try to flip it for XXXXX or whatever you think you just pulled.

Way to go!

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

I would give anything to own these Shoes, I have wanted these for so long, but I'll never be able to afford them....ever....

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

This is what bothers me, I would like them, but I have never spent more than $100 on a pair of shoes. It's my brother that wants them.

But the majority of the people that bought them, while donating something to charity, have bought them to say, "YEAH!! I am the only person who is clever enough to pay $5000 and I am going to sell them for $10,000"

Well, this is only the 3rd round, and by the last couple of days I will guess that people are going to have the idea of "I can spend $1,000, and make $4000" because people will get frustrated or whatever happens.

Then those people that spent $5,000 to make $10,000 will not drop their price because they will lost money on the whole deal. So let's see what these retarded and wounded animals do to each other.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

This is what I knew was going to bother me the most. People like this.

I actually think that there are people that rushed to get them and realized that they paid WAY TO MUCH for these shoes and now want to dump them..and they hope for a profit.

I truly feel that the REAL value for these shoes is $1500 to $2000. I don't think that I would want to pay more than that since they are not very limited. I mean the screen used shoes (which there are about 4-6 pairs) go for $10,000 to $15,000. And they actually have historical significance. These new shoes are just, well....shoe replicas. And they are no 100% acccurate anyway.

I really hope that a singapore company knocks these off and sells them for CHEAP. That way the MJFF gets money and WE get these shoes for a normal price.

Or this @ss bought three pairs at $3500 each and wanted to make some of his money back by selling two pairs.

I agree, I think the hype will wear down on those people who bought them the first night. 1500 isn't really a limited edition.

When Gibson guitars makes a limited edition, they do about 250. That is limited.

For shoes, 1500 it actually low, yes, and it's for charity, which is the best cause.

I do hope the last few days go for $1000-$2000, that is the best way to put those people to shame that just bought them to re-hock.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Why do you want to hate on someone who had the cash to buy them? Who cares what they do with them? You either buy them or you don't. You either bid on their auction or you don't. You either have the disposable income or you don't... period!

Price bashing over these is just as distasteful as price bashing in the JY. :unsure

They're worth what people are willing to pay for them.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Crossing all fingers here.
Really great points made - I too feel there are many out there with deep pockets with only making more money in mind - those who have really little or NO passion for the product itself.
We will see what happens - until then, I will be watching the auctions closely.

You are either missing the point of our argument or don't understand it completely.
What is being said here is WE are the fans who petitioned for Nike to make these shoes for all these years. WE are the fans who love and appreciate the history of these shoes. For someone whos only intent is to buy them out with the sole purpose of flipping them for a huge profit is just a slap in the face to collectors like us.
Have you ever tried to buy tickets to an event only to have them all bought out by scalpers who then sell them for twice or three times the original value - right in front of an arena? Would you think "Man, you know I waited for these tickets and would like to have purchased them at regular retail price, but this DB steps in and buys them out for no other reason than greed."
That's whats happening here.
We openly applaud the fact that the auction sales are going towards the MJF Foundation. What is terrible is that the true fans - the ones who made this happen in the first place cannot even get their hands on a pair because of blood suckers.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

@NikeB4TF: Quite a few Qs about #NikeMAG lapel pins and ceramic replica quantities. A: 3,000 ceramics and 50,000 pins available worldwide

Yeah I knew full well when I made my rant this was the type of answer waiting for me. :rolleyes

I know you said you have a family member with Parkinsons, and I hope that all this money helps go to a cure. I genuinely do.

But you either aren't a fan who just wanted to chime in, or you are one of those people who have enough disposable income to complain for the opposite team. Buy a pair and help a cause.

But for a lot of us, movies like this were a part of our youth. The country is in one of the worst states it's been in for years, possibly decades. And some of us, YES, are pathetic enough to try to cling to a happier time in our lives, but when we were the ones that wanted it to happen, and like the General said, "Bloodsuckers" see room for profit because they have that disposable income lying around only to try to make more, then we have a little bit of a right to complain.

It doesn't bother me one bit that this money goes to a cause, especially a noteworthy cause by the key actor. Michael J. Fox hasn't lived his live in a douschebag Hollywood limelight like Paris Hilton or Charlie Sheen, I believe he is a genuine human being and one of the last people I think should have been stricken with such a terrible disease.

And it's completely out of his control who gets these.

But something should have been done for those who just wanted to spend their hard earned money on something they believed to be a great piece of their own history. I have never made more than $1,200 in one month, so there is no way in hell I would EVER be able to afford these. I am 30 and have been working since I was 13, which is longer than some people twice my age. There are lots of things I will never have and that is fine with me, but stuff like this is the stuff I live for because it usually only matters to people like us.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Frosty, I'm not really directing my comments at anyone here specifically just towards the general attitude that desire to own somehow trumps those with available income.

Nike did the biggest disservice to 'true fans' by releasing these shoes in this manner. This is a huge publicity stunt for them, albeit for a good cause and with the willing help of MJF. Perhaps this is a one time run? Possibly to test the waters for a later, widespread release... who knows. I hope to have a chance to buy a pair one day but I know it won't be these.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

@ TxBaby

Your observations about me are as far off as they could possibly be. As many of the long time members know, I'm by no means a 'deep pocket' and have had to sit back and watch as others tossed their hats into runs that have been for replicas I've wanted since my childhood. I make what I can and sell only to buy another. I'm 47 years old and have worked longer than you've been alive... as if that impresses anyone.

No I don't like scalpers but no one is taking food out of children's mouths or clothes off their backs. I'll live. I've said my piece, no further explanation needed.

Sorry for taking the thread off topic. Back to talk of shoes.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Who knows what Nike has in the works right now.
I know for me, I didn't see this whole thing coming. I just popped in on RPF one day and THERE was the teaser video, right out of left field and completely unexpected.
Here, the've been developing this for six years! In secrecy!
They must be thinking "lets make more of these shoes" but they ALSO backed themselves into a corner by making it a point to say they are "only" making the 1500. With respect to buyers, it would be damaging to their reputation to proceed with a wider run after so many have spent SO much on these.
That being said, my hope for another run is rather slim.
That is why I am hastily trying to gather funds through sales of items I own to try and get these while I still can - before the blood sucking scalpers gobble them up and attempt to sell them for the next year or two for 10K a pair.

Then I was genuinely wrong, and I have ZERO problem admitting that. It bothers me when people try to make a buck of those that are passionate. Which is why I enjoy this forum, people don't really try to scam anyone, they charge what they believe their time is worth.

Boba Fett is my favorite character of all time, and I can live with not having what the other Fett fans have. Instead of spending all the money I have on one thing, I spread out my disposable income. For the past 6 months it's been bmx bikes so I can enjoy one of my passions and lose a little weight.

But when the Gentle Giant Vintage Boba Fett statue was announced for Celebration V, I had several friends that were going whom I asked to grab one for me. People expected there to be limited quantities and limited line spots available. But before the doors opened to the public the lines had already been populated by vendors who were buying them to triple and quadruple the price.

People have learned in the past several years to profit off of nerds in an inhuman way. It's not a slap in our face that Nike did this for a good cause, it's a slap in our face from people who have that much more $$$$$ than most of us, and buy because they believe they will profit off of our supposed ignorance.

It drives the price up against people who just wanted to help a cause and get a cool item. That's what has been bothering me lately. Ebay has exposed that and it's sad for instance that most people go to Comic-Con for that reason and various runs like this.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

@TxBaby
Exactly right on all points.
Just like comic shop owners and online resellers to camp out at Toys R Us or Matty Collector to buy up all the exclusive stuff ONLY to sell them at outrageous prices. Sure, it's the American way - but that does not make it any good.

No it's terrible. Go to a Prada outlet and buy all this years models and styles, and re-sell them to the already rich. Leave us alone.

To these people, I really believe they think the word NERD is synonymous with "Is stupid and will spend his or her money on what I ask of them" or that the word NERD is synonymous with "probably makes a crap ton of computer money"

I realize if and when I get married and have kids, I won't get to have my entire house decked out in "NERD"

But I will be able to have a few things, if I am lucky my own room/study, and if this trend get's worse, then it doesn't make collecting any fun.
