Nike Mag's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Like everyone, I hope Nike will mass-produce them worldwide...

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Tinker said "there will be more products like these in the future" while i'm not super stoked about this edition, i am still holding them in trust that there will be more available down the road. But we don't need roads!

I'm guessing this is just a MJFF fund and a teaser to hold what's i store in the next 4 years, i doubt they can produce 2 million+ pairs with lights and self lacing within a few months. So i'm hoping, and guessing the actual fully functional ones are being worked on and will release sometime in the future. But i cant know too much about my own destiny so i am happy with the ones i have for now :D

I feel bad seeing all the anger / negativity over this event. I would like to re-post what I said earlier :

Guys, I would like to just say something with regards to whatever will be announced, vis-a-vis the price expectancy.

If you can afford them, that's excellent, and may you enjoy them for eons when you get them. If what we saw is what we expect, they are going to be one helluva an item.

If they are beyond your price range, don't let it bother you. They may not be self-lacing or whatever kind of exotic coffee the Nike ones may be announced to be able to perculate, but just don't forget that we have our very own markpoon who makes an EXCELLENT pair of these, and others like Pitbull (or yourself) who can do a jaw-dropping light convertion / addition job on them.

It is vital in cases like these to keep in mind that there exisits a very, very, very respectable alternative for middle-range budget collectors :)

Be happy with what you can afford without donating a lung, and you'll sleep better while enjoying the hobby to the full :) :thumbsup

Yes, the new Nikes are cool, but the above comparison pics are rather self-explanatory I think.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Not quite. The Nike 'arrow' logo is not in the same position as the screen ones. In these ones coming out now, the 'tail' goes all the way to back.

I'm sure there are 1 or 2 more inaccurate tidbits, here and there, but the people buying these, most NOT prop enthusiasts, won't care. After all, they flocked, last year, to buy-out the Nike Hyperdunks, which hardly look much like the BTTF Mags. Imagine the crowds coming after these replicas. Doubt the longer arrow logo will turn them away.

I heard they made different versions, a version with the wires for the auto lace illusion, hero versions for his walking wear, and versions bolted onto the board for when he is connected on the crane from the hip. I think that's why the board version pic look a bit different than the screenused.com pics

I agree.

But here at the RPF we (thankfully) think differently. That's why I don't understand half the hype on these new shoes.

Perhaps, but Mr. Poon doesn't make them in different sizes...

People get you. This is about HYPE. This is the BIGGEST news for the prop world since the Matty Collector Ghost-trap, and for BTTF fans since Doc Brown TV add in Argentina, which was last week. The lack of official Air Mag info is making the prop-fans starve for more info; therefore, making them want them more. Simple Supply and demand principle over shiny overly hyped, limited objects which they want but MIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiight not have...or could they?

Remember the anticipation over The Phantom Menace? People searching the web for spoilers, spy set pics, latest news, rumors, lining-up for months for tickets, etc? Same thing here. Nobody is under appreciating Mark Poon. He is just not made of hype at every geek blog, right now.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Truly a bummer..

So many people are going to associate negative feels with Nike and this event over extremely poor planning.

A much better solution would have been to make this "made to order" sales process. More money to the charity and no major risk of production issues to nike and everyone who wants a pair, gets them. May take 6 weeks to get your pair, but id wait. Set the price for a couple hundred bucks, so there is still a feeling of exclusivity and we have a winner.

But nope.. F Nike and whoever their "marketing genius" who came up with current idea.

Now on the brighter side - which I am NOT holding my breath for as im still fuming about not getting these.

Plenty of items have come out as a limited edition and then a few months later either a second batch or a bigger production run is set. Usually little extras or minor included items are changed. Could be the case here.. im sure Nike has invested quite a bit of R/D, manufacturing, and marketing to dedicate to only 1500 pairs. Sure Nike does limited runs already, but mostly on a already established design, with colors or minor details changed. This shoe is entirely unique...

Also agreed. Such is human nature.

I am in no way 'promoting' Mark's shoes BTW.

All I would like is for people who think of the worst, to comfort themselves knowing that there is a viable and reasonable alternative if it doesn't work out the way they want it to.

I was just trying to save alot of people I know are going to get needless ulcers and massive frustration over this that, IMO, can easily be avoided.

Wishful thinking maybe, but I try :)

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

My guess, 3k per pair or more.
I'll try at half the price, any more I don't think I want them that badly.

No one is bashing Mark Poon's shoes. They are awesome - I own a pair.
This is not about Mark's offering and them being a viable option - as a matter of fact, up until now, they have been the ONLY option ever for these shoes.
The intensity of the hype surrounding these particular shoes are not only associated with them being official Nike releases, but also they are more accurate that Mark's shoes - again, not saying Mark's shoes are not worth the money - they are.
If Mark can use these new official Nike mags as reference to produce new and improved replicas, I'm sure he would sell quite a few.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Oh, people, limited edition means limited edition. Stop suggesting Nike will re-release them for the mass market after the 1,500 are gone. That would defeat the point of "Limited edition" and screw-over 1,500 collectors and their investment. It all depends on what Nike wants to do.

If I was the owner of a 2010 BTTF hyperdunks pair, I'd be pretty upset at the money I spent over an "inspired" shoe when the real deal would be released a year later. After these shoes are released, will BTTF fans still care about the Hyperdunks and their close-enough resemblance to the Air Mags?

.......After these shoes are released, will BTTF fans still care about the Hyperdunks and their close-enough resemblance to the Air Mags?

.... and the answer to that is what saddens me the most, as it goes to show that those who think that way are not in this hobby for the sheer fun and joy of it.

Re: Nike McFly's - It's About Time - VIDEO!

Maybe alot of collectors bought those Hyperdunk shoes thinking they would be the closest Nike would come to releasing BTTF inspired sneaks?
Whatever the case is, I really believe it is a gross injustice to fans and collectors alike that such a small run of these shoes are being made.
