How's it going guys? I've just stumbled upon Mag Modding, running into one of Jedifyfe's Videos on Youtube.... One of those life changing Moments Lol.... I want to thank you guys for your great work, research and advancements and for being so open with your ideas and work. I bought a pair of Mags and want to get started but my question is, I dont have a Dremel, does anyone recommend a certain speed or will any old one do?

+1, any cheap Dremel is fine. I have a really old one too.

You should see my soldering iron, its ancient, more than 20 years old now, it was actually my dads! Still does the job though.

Perfect thanks for confirming, might give this a try when I get all my Mags back from storage :)
Cool,
I'm going to paint one or two pairs after a few tests.

For clear uv resistant spray, (For the UK guys), you can get the rustoleum clear matt spray as you can't get Krylon that easily over here.

I'm just checking out a few different spray primers, will let you guys know which ones are/maybe suitable other than the Valspar and Tamiya primers.

I also matched the green-blue color to my real MAGs.

Regular shoe on the left, updated paint on the right. What do you think

Thanks but in this case, I just stood on the shoulders of other great builders like Caloss. He is the one who did it first. I just copied him. ;)

Well that takes care of yellowing on the grey sole, next we need to figure out what to do about the clear parts. I remember user Catfish45 who tried some retrobrite and it looked great:

However he said 2 days later it turned yellow again.

I wonder if some sort of UV protectant or sealant was immediately applied, if it would stay clear/white.

amazing work.

The modfather!

I think the clear matt spray once you have done the retrobrite may work.

The clear matt spray is supposed to be uv resistant.

Thanks brad for the Shout out i appreciate that a lot / Question .why try to buy products that will only fix the yellowing for a short time why not re mold them. here a easy way it do it if you don't want to pay tons of money plaster pairs and mold plates from the dollar store pour the plaster pairs in mold plate and wait for it to dry then bammm theirs your sole mold for the V2 it will only be a duplicate of already sole pattern unless you put in the outer ridges but that is a 2 peace mold and that's a little harder to do but this 1st one can be done in a shortly time period and requires no hard instructions. i will post pictures shortly. also pics of the V2 shell re done using the the same factory shoe / all parts are of the V2 none or re molded yet. that is another kit. I will be doing 3 kits for people who have the markpoons / V2 / and my custom re molded kit hope you guys enjoyed the pics more to come please fell free to ask any question i will try to answers them in a timely manner.

Thanks caloss for the great sole respray tips. Look forward to your mods on the clear soles.

A question on making a mold for the grey soles.
Are you making a 2 part plaster mold?

The mags have a non standard midsole so was trying to work out how best to do a mold.

Amazing job.
Perfect.

Did you seal using the matt spray right at the end of everything?
Incredible difference the respray has made.

They look fantastic.

Are you gonna try some retrobrite
and then seal it?

Im curious to know whether it will work.

If it does that will be even better.

I might try seaglow mixed with some blue tint.

great. Hopefully it should work.

I was reading about retrobrite and how its not a permanent solution. Whether its shoes or plastic parts, they do go yellow again, albeit slowly.

My guess is with a good few coats of sealer after applying the retrobite or seaglow, you should get a strong seal which is uv resistant.

Definitely worth doing an extra coat of sealer to give extra UV protection.

I don't think that spraying the matte coat paint will stick. The rubber they use for the sole doesn't take paint at all.

Dangit Brad!!! I *just* finished my 2nd and final pair (which will be for display only) and was really happy with them, and now your pics are making me unsatisfied again. :devil

Also, the lighter grey you just did really reminds me of how the grey looks in these pics:

Sorry...blame Caloss...LOL!! Yeah the light greay really does make them look MUCH better. Much more like the real prop shoes.
