When I did mine I used a brush on product I got from Ebay which was pretty much the right shade of grey. Unfortunately it chips off easily so I had to overcoat it with a tougher clear, which was supposed to be matte but still has more shine than I wanted. I imagine if anyone wants to repaint the midsole the best time would be when you have the old clearish soles off, before putting Cavx's on. If Cavx used a spray on, he would have had to take a lot of time to prepare, taping and blu-tac-ing the edges of everything and so on to prevent overspray.

How did you paint the midsole without getting the paint on the upper?

This is the paint I have used. I ordered 6 cans on line and I think I got one for free postage. My local auto dealer can supply vinyl dye, just not this colour and they charge about $16/can. I paid $20/can for this paint which will also be used to paint the armour of an AT-AT driver.

This is a vinyl dye made for seat covers and dash boards in cars. It is supposed to penetrate the surface and bond to the material is has been painted on. I sprayed a small amount inside the cap to make a small pool of paint, then applied the paint with a fine brush. The paint dries in about 20 secs and is only removable with acetone. Turps won't touch the stuff. I have not worn these yet, but based on the fact that my V1 soles were painted with a darker version (sprayed on) and they never cracked, I have high hopes for these. I guess for the splatter, I can just use an enamel because it is small streaks and blobs, so cracking should be an issue.

If airair's plan to get V3s made turns out well, I am definitely getting a pair and repainting the soles with this vinyl dye.

Can any one help me with wiring on my mags(9 volt)? I consider myself pretty good with electronics but cant figure this out.ive got my el strip in the strap and leds in the soles and ankle bubble.the setup will come on fine with the judco switch that was suggested to use.i have left the shoes on for a hour and the battery has a normal cool temp to it(seems to stay cool as long as its on).now the part where im lost everytime I turn the shoe's off by the switch the battery begins to get hot until I unhook the terminals from the battery.i have my switch wired 1 wire to positive and 1 wire to negative off the battery to the inverter.switched the wires from the switch, no diffrent.sorry for the long post but this is holding me up on finishing my mags and I am stumped.i even went back and checked all connections and they are fine.it seems like the switch is shorting out the battery, I dont know please point me in the right direction

It would be good if they could just change the color of the rubber. My guess is that they made 10,000 soles pre 2012 and therefore we won't see an upgrade until they are all gone.

It does, but if that was the case, I would suggest that the lights would not work either.

Thats what id think also.anytime I've ever had a electrical short the component would not work, which is not the case here as the lights are bright, just the battery's temp raises when off.maybe a little sleep will help ill get back to them after work tomorrow.

if you follow the wiring diagram somewhere in this thread, it will work fine.
you may be wiring things incorrectly as battery should never heat up.

Gave that vinyl dye a test run today.

Just need to find a pot of aqua for the splatter and MAG (and some white for the NIKE) lettering.

Nice,
how many coats did you do? Do you have a close up?
thanks

Thanks airair, I found the wiring diagram and it all works fine now.the wiring on the inverter was throwing me off (noob mistake)lol!

airair, do you think the factory you contacted for more accurate uppers would sell pairs that are disassembled? I wouldn't mind still paying full price. Meaning the upper and heel cup would be removed from the midsole for someone to glue on later. I'm asking because that would make painting and electronics installing easier. And since I plan on using Cavx's clear soles some day, the stock clear soles the shoes normally come with wouldn't have to come with the shoes at all. So basically a kit version.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Where did you order your el wire from? I've ordered from elwirecraft and ended up with some bum pieces. El wire pros is here in the us, actually down the street from me and they seem to be really good guys. Heck they even sent me a few pieces for free.
After getting the elwire in the sole I got it to project by using some mirror chrome vinyl, looks pretty good but I wanted it brighter so I used leds because I ran out of el sheet.as soon as I figure out how to post pics on here I will.i moved on to the ankle bubble but the green wire elwirepros sent appears more blue than green so ill probably use leds in the ankle bubble too.

The easiest way without a photobucket or similar site account is to upload them to your facebook acount, click "view full size image" then copy the URL. After that paste the link in the comment section and put
at the end. Include the brackets.

I had an issue with the green looking blue as well. You need to get the lime color iirc to get the green color you are seeking.

I think its possible to buy the pieces dissambled for sure.

At the moment, they are having trouble coming up with a solution to make the top half of the uppers.
I've already explained them the seam lines, one at the back and one on the side between the 2nd and 3rd laces.

The problem they are having is that because I've asked them to make the top half of the upper the proper thickness, they are trying to work out a way to do the triangular hole cutout without any stitching. So i've sent them pictures of my own build to see if they can work out a solution.

The lace rib thickness is easy and they have sorted that out. If you open a pair of the V2 or halloween costumes shoes, you will feel a very stiff piece of cardboardy type or some type of material, and onto this is glued a very stiff eva foam sponge piece which simulates each of the 4 lace ribs. This is too thick (around 2mm) and stiff, and when they put over the next layer of thin spongy foam, and then the scrim fabric, then the grey fabric over, the lace ribs stick out ridiculously.

The white puffy collars will go on as a seperate piece which is glued to the grey upper half rather than stitched into it like the V2 and HC versions.
It seems to be the triangular cutout which they are having issues with.

So whilst it bonded really well to the MAGs, it did not bond as well to these Reeboks I am painting up for my wife's Jennifer costume.

did you acetone the grey soles before spraying the dye?

I've tried acetone on some grey soles and the paint is quite strongly adhered from the factory. Its heat set polyurethane paint inside an oven, so its extremely well bonded.
