Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

My display pair have a switch in the white coller ( that was a pain to do ) as tried to get them as movie accurate as poss
NIKE placed the switch in the cuff for the 2011 release. No where in the film does it suggest that the switch is there for the movie shoe. It is debatable if the lights and power laces are activated when he pulls the on the collar or because his foot applies pressure to the sole.

I've got an idea for a "switch" in the strap that only completes the circuit when the strap is done up. Lights turn off as soon the strap is un-done.

Yep I agree that's not in the movie , when I say movie accurate that's a pinch of salt and more nikes version which is kinda more movie accurate , Id love it if you put your foot in and hey presto all done up and lights on but it's the cost I would think , with the strap it's possible , when you strap it down it makes a connection and lights come on , then would be next best thing

That would be lush if you do get it to work , so would it be like poppers like you get on top off 9v batteries , so it makes a solid connection ,

lots of interesting stuff there to read,,, i also have ordered my EL from el wirecraft in the uk, ( purely as im a bit sick of speaking to china and getting lied to! because if they mess me about i can drive down to their office and slap them in person in the uk LOL ) , i have looked into the sheets / splitters / invertors they have and i opted for a 9v with splitter cable which i aim to power both EL sheet parts and put a switch in line in the cuff.... should do me just fine for the limited amount of use i plan for them!

the ongoing update of my Karin order is that they have currently been put into uk customs just over a month since i ordered,, and are currently awaiting "charges" to be added.... ( nice one Karin,.. im pretty sure you have put something stupid on the customs declaration to cause this!)... although im sure this wont be a huge charge, it still winds me up when a regular supplier i get genuine Nike's worth upwards of £250 can manage to send me them in under a week and i never get customs charges!...

im thinking of ordering another pair once i have got my head around the first ones,,, il be trying a different seller for sure despite recommendations LOL

Hope customs don't keep them , didn't gave that problem they went straight thru , awaiting customs then released customs , just to show with karin we msg 29 times regarding where are my mags with the other person I ordered from 5 msg , the Elwirecraft stuff I find ok for my display pair as I don't wear them , but had to modify there bits for my wear pair as there wires are quite bulky , the first set up I brought from them was sooooo long , it's good that your getting the bits in as you can start straight away , that's if customs arnt wearing them , do the toe mod first with the iron as this makes such a difference , hope you get them

elwirecraft is ok for some things, but not for el sheets.

they are the worst el sheets ive ever seen, crappy and useless.

they cost £20 for just 1 sheet.

Instead of that, I got mine in bulk from hong kong and much cheaper. Proper cuttable el sheets with none of that rubbish hardwired thing on there.

the el sheets from elwirecraft have that awful gap between the edge of the sheet to where the actual light part begins, unlike the proper sheets from hong kong.

the elwirecraft cuttable el sheet are probably ok for a display piece and other uses, but for these replica modifications, they are useless.

stick with proper tabbed or thin connection ends on the EL sheets from hong kong, thats the proper way to do it.

I'm not much of a modder (not yet anyway, I might look to mod my V2's soon), but at the moment, when they are plugged in (on charge), all the lights are fine, but when they run off the batteries, the blue sole lights on one of the shoes flash on and dim nearly straight away. They are fairly new, haven't been worn and haven't been switched on much at all. Is this just a case of dodgy batteries? Cheers.

It's a case of dodgy electrics from china , so it's either stick with them or totally gut them and do you Own , some only mod when the electrics start to go , normally 3 choices have flickering lights , no lights or start modding :0)

Thanks for the reply Winchy, I guess I'm gonna have to start modding :unsure But I think I will start with the Strap, is anyone selling the light up (accurate) straps? If not, I'll tackle it myself :)

Start with the toe mod as it's totally changes the shape and makes them look a lot better , straps are quite easy to do , there's lots of tutorials on YouTube etc for all the mods , it's cheating if you buy the straps lol :0) but a lot easier lol , can be quite £ thou . Enjoy :0) when I got my first pair I wasn't going to mod but when you see the results you are glad you did

Cloneprops was selling some really nice straps a while back, I haven't seen them for a while though so I can't guarantee he's still producing them.

just going to throw it out there, as it could save me a load of running about ( as i dont have a lazer printer handy etc)...... anyone fancy sorting me some strap logos?... :) im in the uk so uk people would be best!.... worth a shot eh?

Hey there guys. I wanted to chime in with an update. My Mags arrived today! It took a month from Feb. 26th to March 28th to get them to the US via Karin Chen. Slow going. I wanted them for MegaCon last weekend, but better late than never.

So I have a few questions and a few notes for anyone looking to order through Karin. First off the box they arrived in is totaled. Not a big deal to me, but so much for having a good place to store them. The shoes themselves look pretty good. However, the biggest issues are 3 of the 4 yellow LEDs are firing on the left shoe, and the toe cap has some heavy grit on it. I'm not sure if I should try some soap and warm water on it, because I don't want to discolor the grey fabric. I still have an active "purchase protection" available on the shoes themselves, is it worth opening a dispute to try and have a new pair shipped to me? I didn't know if anyone here had dealt with getting a new pair sent over. Lastly, how long do you charge the shoes for? and how long should I expect the lights to go before needing recharging?

Thanks and any feedback would be most welcome.

Sounds like my second pair. Karin gave me 5% off my third pair as compensation. 1st and 3rd pairs were awesome, especially the 3rd which even came packed in plastic bags. You should get between 2 and 5 hours from the lights. And sometimes one goes out before the other and one reason many mod these.

I've been watching Jedifyfe's modding tutorials on YouTube in preperation for my Mags arriving. How easy is it to get the toebox back into position and how high is the risk of getting glue on areas of fabric you don't want it to go?

Are you going to cut and glue or steam them or both?

Jedifyfes been modding MAGs for a while, back to the MP MAG days, so he has been able to refine his technique and has it pretty much perfected. Many have done the cut and glue method and all look quite good from pics posted. I think the pair airair did where he removed the toe box altogether looked sensational - most movie-prop accurate to date.

I was not game to cut mine so just went the steam method on my 2 pair. The results here are size dependent and even Jedifyfe suggested that a combination of cutting and steaming would be needed to get it perfect because the larger sizes either bulge or wrinkle. Simply put, the steam simply changes the shape but does not allow the size to be reduced as cutting does.

I found that on this smaller pair (US8), the toe came out very smooth and clean. When I did this same technique on my US9.5 pair, it initially bulged and I didn't like it, so re-did it only to get some wrinkles. I don't mind these because they give the 'sock' look which is
closer to the movie used shoe.
The odd part is, whilst I have did not cut my toe box, I had no problems slicing open the soles to make them 'outrigger' :)

I didn't want to cut and slice mine , as don't want to muck them
Up I went for the steam method and think the results are good , here's ImageUploadedByTapatalk1396095977.935530.jpg mine when I was half way thru my mod ,

This steam method (just to clarify) you hold the shoe above the iron let the steam go into the toe area for a few mins then just press down and form the slim toe look? If not can anyone please describe. Thank you :)
