Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

Whilst I have worn Hi-Tops since the late 80's, there was a time when it was almost impossible to find anything that extended half an inch over the ankle. And the MAG is tall and the sort of shoe you won't wear with shorts making Hi-Tops more suited to the cooler parts of the world.[/QUOTE]

Yep you got that right, I was up in central QLD at Xmas 2012 (not long after the V2's arrived) and they were very warm to wear. At least hi-tops are a little more common now, though the majority are still what we would call "mid-cuts". Some basketball shoes have good ventilation (like Jordan 6's) but since the MAGs were always made as a 'prop' I expect that was never considered. Even super tall shoes like the Under Armours aren't as tall as Mags.

Do they make that pen in AQUA? That is what I need as one MAG is nearly worn off from constant wearing.

if you've got any art shops around where you live, they might be the best bet - or Solver Paints (where I worked once) might still sell cheap sample pots, though you may have to mix the colour to get it JUST right. There's also such a thing as a 'foam brush' where it can't drop bristles or leave bristle lines in the paint. Water-based (acrylics) will be easier to work with, but since the heel cup is not a high flex area (oil based paint will crack if you might find oil based paint will be more durable.

I am going to suggest that the reason there is no V3 is because they simply have not sold as many pairs as they were hoping to warrant the costs of new molds.

From a manufactures perspective, you generally do not revise a product unless you know you will at least re-coupe your costs. Looking at Karen Chen's site, and shes only sold about 100 pairs of these since they were released. Not sure how many sellers are out there or how many pairs each has sold but I will suggest it is not enough.

A steel mold for say the sole will cost upwards of USD$5K (and that is made in China, not the US), and these shoes have at least 4 different cast parts = 4 different molds. So a product change is a big outlay and one we are not likely to see unless 2015 brings in the hordes of MAG want to be owners.

I'd have to agree that there's no v3 coming for now. Within China there has been a steady decline in the number of sellers. Looking on Taobao there is now less than one page of results for Mags, where there used to be more than ten. Maybe next year with it being 2015, the manufacturers will invest in producing a more accurate copy. I think another release from Nike would be the push they need to do it.

If I was running one of those sites, I'd sell enough v2s to save up & get a few pair from the 2015 release and straight use one pair to reverse engineer it :cool
Thanks again booshman for the v2s, original electronics are still holding up:thumbsup

And that is the issue right there. These stores are not selling the volumes needed to warrant tge outlay. As far as we know, all the MAGs come from the same factory and as I mentioned earlier, they need to sell a certain number of the shoes before we see any revisions.

Heres a little update on my ongoing fun with "don't worry friend it is on its way, please wait a little longer" Karin Chen,...

so today is the 26th of March,,, i made my order on the 26th of Feb and still no Mags have arrived!..... the pretty useless tracking seems to show that my mags have literally only just made it to the UK,... so who knows i may get them before april!.... ( i dont hold out much hope currently)

i have looked at the listing, and read up on Ali-express t&c's and as Karin had listed the items as 27 days delivery guarantee i have filed a dispute due to the payment protection time about to run out, and i still dont have my mags..

Karin as always does respond straight away......... telling me that the refund is rejected, and to wait longer....
i refused and stated that i have been miss-lead several times, told the item was on its way when it had not even been picked up yet, and i was just following the rules of the website.
once again Karin rejects the dispute, saying that she hasnt miss-lead, ( i pointed out that on the order it actually states delivery by EMS in 5-10 days LOL!!!) and i have put it back in dispute again.... i can tell this is going to have to be escalated to Ali-express directly now..... so so so disappointed!, i just put my order in for all the EL bits as well!...

worst experience ive ever had with a chinese supplier! :(

I brought a pair from karin , and it took around 25 days from when I paid to get to my door in the uk , I ordered another pair about 2 weeks after I ordered from karin from another seller Jeremy lieu I believe it was , and they took only 10 days from when I paid , both turned up together , karins where awful to track and like you took forever to appear on certain tracking websites ,

yeah it seems that Karin is maybe good to use if you live in USA, but for UK she seems to not really be that bothered!,.. i think i will be looking into other sellers to get the next pair!,.. so far the best offer i have been made is a partial refund of £6.09 ..... HA!... il keep waiting and see what ali-express do it seems.

in the meantime i think i may start my modification of my pair of air force 180's .... they already have a "mag esq" style to them,, im thinking repaint the sole/midsole and somehow get to the air bubble and fit either EL or LED for a nice little custom job? :p

Just be careful you don't pop the air bubble when you mod them, I had air 180s when they first came out and man they felt weird when one went flat.

Ive just ordered some from Karen.. she told me 2- 2 1/2 weeks ago that she was out of stock and i got a message a few days back that they were back in stock.. i wonder if thats why your order was so slow?

I really wanna get the EL strip or whatever i need to make the NIKE part light up... i know the shopping list helps but can someone point me in the right direction? or does anyone sell what i need?

elwirecrafts el sheets are crap.

i made the mistake once of buying a sheet. For some reason their el sheet has a massive gap between the edge of the sheet to where the light begins.

it means it's useless for the el sole cut outs and the straps. As the connection points are already hard wired, you are going to find it impossible to fit the el cutout in the strap area and glue it down properly. Same with the sole cut outs.

From your pic it looks like you have the exact same one I had. I just threw mine in the bin because of how crap it was.

the el sheet was overpriced too. The ones straight from Hong Kong are superior. You can properly cutout the correct shapes and solder your own connections.

also elwirecraft doesn't sell any thin inverters either, only the huge square ones.

absolute crap el sheets from my experience. Totally useless for what is required on these shoes where you don't have much space available.

also you can't connect everything using those el connector cables as they are too thick to be under feet, so unless you want to do it incorrectly like Robertx who placed everything in the tongue of the shoe, you will definitely need better el sheets in my opinion.

I know what you mean bout the inverter but I've since changed it for a tiny one runs a watch battery and have it behind buckle , which has the switch built into it as well , the sheets where fine ( I did slightly trim the edges ) both for my wear pair and display pair , the only thing I changed bout the el sheets was the colour , as I decided on blue for my wear pair as it went better with my normal clothes lol , as the aqua looks awesome on display

I made new straps to incorporate the wires , they run double around front so I slightly cut a grove out , and ran the wires round , my display pair has all that original wires as they are just display , my wear pair only has one wire under foot for el sheets in sole but goes under a thicker sole, I had to shorten the wires as they do come quite long , and have them tucked in the side in a pocket .

the coin cell inverter battery won't last that long once you have your LEDs running as we'll as a coin cell hasn't got much mAh to last that long.

you may have to change the coin cell much more often than a standard battery. In fact I think you will be lucky to get more than an hour off a coin cell which is powering the el strap and el sole cut outs and the 12 LEDs.

if you are using the coin cell 3v inverter it means you may have to remove the flashing bit of the functionality if you just want on and off.

the single coin cell inverter usually has on/ flashing/off.

I have several pairs running off 3v using 2 x aaa batteries (either 1.5v or 1.2v Nimh). They last very long as the 1.2v Nimh batteries have a high mAh of 800 to 1000.

ok so are you not going to put a hidden switch in the white collars?

My display pair have a switch in the white coller ( that was a pain to do ) as tried to get them as movie accurate as poss , but my wear pair I havnt , I have the switch behind the buckle still manly due to ease and less wires , but my one doesn't go on and off as your walk like when you first get them lol , the only thing annoys me is the colour of the soles :0(

I get about 50 mins in total in my wear pair lol , but that doesn't bother me as I hardly have lights on ... Only when I'm asked " wow do they light up" :0) , luckily the local pound shop does packs of about 30 for a pound lol , and as I use 9v in display pair they last ages again as they only go on on special occasions :0) ,
