Newbie with Iron man suit construction questions

Hello!
I plan(really want to) build the iron man mark V suit. I'm rather new to cosplay and have a few questions. I found a template for the helmet but to get any depth it looks as if i need to use foam? What kind of foam and where can i get this?
Also could anyone point me int he direction of some good general cosplay construction guides on how to actually perform alot of these tasks, if its iron man detailed then brownie points!

last question, If i construct a peice out of paper, how do people usually make sure this stays together and is sturdy? I was thinking perhaps spraying a fiberglass resin on it and layering the sprays?

any additional tips are appreciated, i want to make sure i know what im doing before i plunge into this build!
