New York Comicon

Thanks for posting the pics gang. Those Weta Ray guns are cool but I was unhappy with the price they announced awhile back. Any other big celebs there?

P.S. Need more booth babe pics. ;)

"Lousy" in the old slang meaning there were lots of them. All the costumes were top shelf.

Cool. That's what I figured but wasn't sure. Never heard the word used that way before. :)

More of Mezco Toyz' Goonies stuff since there seems to be an interest.

kevin smith was a really nice guy. the 501st did a little award presentation thing with him backstage right after that panel...

there's video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnpKPhHzaog

we then escorted him out of the building (most of the troopers there were volunteering at the con, and usually doing line control or escorts). we got outside to find no car waiting... he was just going to hail a cab. it's great that he has all of this fame and celebrity status, but has remained just a normal guy.

I was there Friday and Saturday. I mostly trooped with the 501st though I switched over to Cobra Saturday afternoon with my friend Rose:

The con was just as busy as last year but with the bigger hall it fortunatly wasn't as packed.

It's kinda funny - I've wanted to meet Kevin Smith for years and years but I'm scared to death of saying or doing something totally stupid when I do. It's quite a vicious circle and it's actually kept me away from his appearances most times. He's the one person I wouldn't want to eff up a first impression with. He's a big hero of mine.

i was actually nervous too, but for slightly different reasons. he always comes off as just another geek. the sort of guy that you'd have a 2am chat about how bad stormtroopers' aim is.

if he had turned out to be an a-hole, my image would have been ruined.

thankfully he was awesome.

during his q&a a guy came up and asked him for an interview. he said "if you can find me after the panel, sure".

well, the guy somehow got himself backstage at the panel. i missed how, but he was there. kevin comes back, congratulates the guy for actually finding him, and does the interview.

he then spent probably 15 minutes or so with the group of us, asking about the costumes, about how the ladies like the armor, etc... we got what should be a great shot of him with my wife in her trooper groupie outfit. hopefully that will be up soon, and i'll post it here.

sucks being in costume sometimes, since you can't take pics yourself... sunday i stuck to plain clothes and snapped a couple of fun ones...

and i found this one online... the only decent shot so far of me in my Darth No-oneknowswhoIam (aka Nihilus from knights of the old republic 2). the at-at driver to my right is my wife.

Don't sweat it. You would not believe the idiotic questions some people asked him. And some of them just go on and on. This 16-year-old girl was jawing forever about her lesbian sex life and Kevin turned to the audience of rouhgly 2000 and said, "The rest of you might as well leave, we're chatting."

tk7602. I think I have a pic of your wife in my first batch on p.1. If that's her, I can send you the full size pic. LMK.

Kind regards,

My wife and I got to meet Kevin several years ago. It was totally random too.

I was in New Jersey visiting my mom's side of the family for a reunion. My wife couldn't get as many days off from work as me, so she flew up a few days later. When I went to Newark airport to pick her up, we stepped outside for a smoke before the luggage arrived.

As we were walking out through a revolving door, Kevin Smith and a young lady were walking in through the same door. My wife didn't notice at all. Once we got outside, she commented that I had a weird look on my face and I said "That was Kevin Smith.." She's like, "What??? Where?????" I pointed in through the windows and we could see him at one of the airline ticket counters.

My wife says, "I'll be right back.." and goes back inside. A few minutes later she came back out with a big smile on her face and told me that she got him to sign an autograph for her son (who is actually the one who got me into Clerks to begin with :D ) So she is all happy about that.

Then a couple minutes later, Kevin and this lady come out to smoke as well. :lol So the 4 of us are just standing there chatting for a few minutes. He mentioned that he thought it was very cool of my wife not to "go crazy" and be mellow when she approached him. He was really laid back and we just talked about some random junk, like how boring airports are and stuff like that. He let us take a couple pics with him, and then he was like "Well, enjoy your trip to Jersey. Nice to meet you guys."

It was a cool experience. And yes, as others have mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a pretentious bone in that guy's body.
