Hey guys!

So im new to TheRPF in the sense that ive been on it for a while but never contributed to it or made an account! So ive decided to make "The Amazing Spiderman" (2012) suit and webshooters for cosplay. Im going a step beyond for the webshooters and are making them work. in terms of web fluids and formulaes, im a chemistry student so im working on them, with the mechanics of the webshooter working somewhat! Ill be posting updates and stuff, but if anyone that can help with tips or stuff could contribute it would be awesome! The next post will show what ive gotten so far! I will be 3D printing some stuff as i have easy access, but for now ill be working on the lenses and webshooter before i get the print. (Exam mode currently)

So sorry for the longg essay but heres to a successful build, and to the lovely people of TheRPF!

Hey guys! So these are the glasses i managed to get, with the hexagonal grey mesh from old speakers. My aim is to heat the mesh, reform it into the lense shape, whilst the glasses ill reheat the frame and form them. going from there ill chip away the lenses to the right shape. Following from this the mesh will be spray painted gold, and ill probably post once thats done!

Anyone wanna chip in? Some advice, im having difficulty with the lense sizes. I made the faceshell from Gimpees pep file (http://www.therpf.com/f78/spiderman-face-shell-pepakura-file-foam-version-jfcustom-pdf-added-211099/).

Heres the build it fits my head pretty well, a tad tight but workable, im going to spackle it and smooth it to get a cast, then drill holes into it and start sizing the lenses from there. Only concern is everyone is hyped over the TASM2 suits and lenses, and im trying to make a TASM1 suit and lenses. Will update in a bit!

I really like where this is going, man. Can't wait to see the finished product! :)

Hey dude! Finally someones emerged! I think i saw you on another spidey forum right? Im having a tough time with the lenses, purely because id rather make them than 3d print it. I got a 3D printer but again, the challenge! Any tips?

You think? I could get that like right now its in a store near my house pretty cheap, but im worried when i heat it , it could break like easily? Kinda thing ;/
No it gets nice and rigid and it's even a little bit bendy. It'll snap if you bend it too far though

Right! Well ill get some tomorrow, im a little unsure for colour wise, would it be ideal to spray the frames black, then the mesh lense gold?
Or how? Im not sure ive seen so many variations of it :/

When I did it, I brushed it on in acrylic since it's cheaper than buying a whole bottle of spray paint and that worked fine. For the mesh I did end up spraying so that the holes wouldnt get filled up. And I left the back black for visibility

Well i already have the paints, pre-hand for another project so cost isnt an issue, but i see your point. Im aiming for a black frame, followed by the gold mesh. Then either a clear screen for protection or a polaroid blue lense cover thing. Ill show more when i finish the faceshell tomorrow, gotta balance revision and this !

Ok cool ill check it out when you post an update. The paint shouldn't give you any problems though

haha yeah I think you did. I feel the same. Like OneGoodScare said you could make the frames out of sculpey Firm. Make sure it's the firm kind. Any other kind is not as strong. Also shape them to your face shell before baking them. If you try to bend them after they might snap. I made some test web shooters out of this stuff and threw them around to test it out--they did not break. While the frames will be thinner than the web shooter, it is pretty sturdy. But I also recommend making a mold just in case so you can make more.

Right well i went to the shops today, but they had a bunch of them! Heres what they had, maybe you could guide me? Im in the UK and when i went to the store that sells it, i asked for Sculpey Firm and they said they never heard of that ?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Sculp...8&qid=1432906457&sr=1-1&keywords=Sculpey+Firm
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-794...e=UTF8&qid=1432906607&sr=1-2&keywords=Sculpey
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-Pol...e=UTF8&qid=1432906607&sr=1-8&keywords=Sculpey

Basically they had these 4, my concern is the top ones a tad too expensive, but if it happens to be that ill probs end up getting it :p.

Yep, it's this one: Super Sculpey Firm http://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Sculp...8&qid=1432906457&sr=1-1&keywords=Sculpey+Firm. Yeah, it is a bit expensive:(. I found it for $15.00 here in the US...but it works. It's not the only way to do this, though.

Im gonna keep the Super Sculpey a possibility for the moment. However would the others work? Are they as good or what are the other methods? Ive looked all over but everyones interested in 3D printing. I cant print anything until next weekend because were off on holiday atm.

I tried using Sculpey III and it cracked. They might work, but will definitely not be as strong or durable. Well I've seen people making them out of rubber(print out a stencil for the frames and cut them out of a rubber sheet), and I've also seen people casting them out of resin(Idk if you have the materials for this).

Yeah the rubber thing sounds too much, and the resin requires even MORE material, i guess ill chip the extra £££ and get the sculpey firm. Only thing is its 454g ! id be happy with 200g to make 4 frames (2 sets). Know of any other place that does it but a smaller quantity?

I know they have 57g packets, but I haven't seen a Super Sculpey Firm version of those. :unsure
Even in their web site this is all they have. http://www.sculpey.com/product/super-sculpey-firm/
