yes thats true, he sent them to me, he ain't going to loose his job because I like production pics and sketches
and I'm just saying what he told me, then again is a prop designer going to admit to doing that? and I'm just posting for all those that don't surf the dr who sites, I know I hate it and never go there

Thats pretty awsum,
I heard that the doctors sonic screwdriver for this series was pulled from the toy moulds or was buitfrom the toys for some reason (maybe because david broke the others!!)
So it wouldnt surprise me if they did use the toy as a base for this one!
Not sure if i like it though, compared to the original Tennant Ecelsson Sonic Screwdriver, Hmm, Personally i also loved the original Sonis Screwdriver circa Tom Baker - onwoods... any comments?

True, and I know where I can download them, but I'm picky and would rather wait to see them on my big screen with a non-compressed/pixelated image and surround sound. The Doctor is worth the wait.

Thats what I heard as well and you havent seen him "use it" much this season with the extended look or in very close up untill this last episode, I know that the original laser and sonic were floating around on display around christmas time, may have been damaged, but at a glance the toy one aint a bad representaion of the sonic screwdriver. at the cost of them in argos I'm thinking of making one myself, most of the parts look easily available

The sonic screwdriver that David Tennant uses is cast from the same moulds that the Pens are made with, which is why Tennants extends. The one that Eccleston used was crap, and kept breaking with the sligghtest amount of pressur, and didn't extend. It was also a couple of inches smaller.

Not at all guys. Tennants Screwdriver is based from the molds of the ORGINAL CO mold which is not like the final at all, and shares the same dimentions of the screen used Eccelston SS. We have a member here with one of the orginals and shared a number of photos.
The BBC was given them and they made a few copies for the exhibitions and one was even stolen.

ok you got me confused here, it's not the toy one, but taken off of a copy of the original one the toy company made for the toy? have you got the pics or a link to the pics to show the differance between the original CO one that they use now and the released toy version to help aleviate the confusion

The basic rundown, as I understand it, is this:
1. BBC made the 6" Eccleston sonic (with the large slot)
2. Character Options made a to-scale replica prototype, and made molds
3. The electronics proved too big, so CO opted to redo the sonic at oversized at 7"
4. The BBC purchased the CO 6" replica molds for use on the show, as it stood up to more use / abuse than the original
5. The BBC apparently use only certain parts of the mold (I would presume they use the 'ceramic' body and have the emitter machined)
There's a 5" Wesco LED flashlight that has no bearing here.
Here a pic comparison NOTE! This pic is mislabeled! This is the 6" CO prototype sonic and the 7" production sonic:

This shot shows a barely-seen part of the Tennant Sonic - the bottom! From Series 4 Ep 1 'Partners In Crime' (the cat-flap scene):
Curious slide 'button', and no castle-ated (?) section, just turned aluminium. Stunt version? Normally you don't see this kind of close-up shot on the show at all.

I have seen better pictures of the CO prototype along with CO production taken by owner of it here in the US. The were posted online but i think his name was Karstva. He posted pics of them together on here.

Tennants always had that slighter that you can see in partners in crime. It's also visible in the Christmas Special that Donna was in.
Tennants prop also has a blue dome on the top, not clear.

Does anyone have pictures of the Future Sonic's top panel before the Doctor removes the piece exposing the lights?
I am working this version, but read in another thread that the picture is after the fact, and I need to know what it looks like while it is still attached.

In the first pic in this thread:
The top panel appears to be brass with a bent brass handle. Looks like it fits flush into the recess where the memory thingy is.

Indeed we do. We didn't make the original sonic prop though but obviously have had access to it as well as the laser screwdriver and Masters' ring.
Anyone going to ComiCon in San Diego at the end of July will get to see them too along with a few other new replica items that Doctor Who fans will love!
