I haven't gotten the BB-8 (yet), but this R2 is a definite buy.
I was fortunate and found both the R2D2 and the BB-9E at target today. If you are looking for them, then hit up a target early tomorrow Friday morning as they seemed to be stocked well.
It turns out that Wal-Mart really didn't participate in Force Friday as advertised. They put out some action figures but didn't even stock the shelves. While that sounds bad, it may be a good thing for anyone who hits the stores tomorrow as they may also have them stocked.

Haha, yes. My cat LOVES BB8 but she always pops his head off and I'm afraid she's going to bite off the antenna. Can't wait to see her reaction to R2.

So, just got back from Target and picked up the R2. He's awesome. Way cooler than BB8. The sounds are actually in the unit, not just on the phone, and the lights in the head really sell it. It's painted well too.

I don't want to say the paint job on it is awful, but it's pretty awful. They must have put all the money into the electronics.
