New/Old/Future Sonic in S6 Dr WHO?

I've been sent this image showing a few pre production items from the next season of DW. No idea what it is or in what context it is to be used in, but it is the old sonic with what looks like some extras added.

The person that sent me this has come up trumps in the past and I agree with him that it looks like a CT sonic or Aztec stunt. The location this was taken is defnately Upper Boat Cardiff. Again, what context it is to be used or even if it is to be used is unknown. It's very weird though.

I've been meaning to ask something for ages, but this has reminded me. In the episode, "Silence in the Library", River Song has the Doctor's sonic screwdriver and she claims that he hasn't given it to her 'yet'.

In the new series however, we see that screwdriver get destroyed and replaced with the new larger green one - when does the doctor give her a screwdriver then? Could it be this one?

It confused me slightly but I glossed it over as a slight continuity error :(

The only reason I can see the old sonic coming back, is if it is in connection with the River Song storyline. He may have a spare one knocking about (he did in Smith and Jones), or he may repair the blown up one and modify it. Maybe this is it.

:SPOILERS AHEAD:

I haven't seen the episode in some time, so I may be wrong, but I'd always assumed that Song's sonic was a paradox. Maybe I'd read too much into it, but the way that he laid it to rest with her diary at the end of Forest of the Dead seemed to betray that it was also its point of origin.

You actually need a point of origin to begin with though, it can't just come into being, therefore he must have made it at some point. Even with a paradox you need a point of origin.

Saying that though, Moffatt has already broken the rules of paradox in the Big Bang, when the Doctor appeared from no point of origin to give Rory his sonic to release him. For that to have happened, even paradixically, the Doctor has to have escaped under his own steam originally, which he didn't. Therefore it's not a paradox, but a programme making cheat. So teh River sonic enigma might be another of those.

I'm glad someone else noticed that. There was the big build up at the end of the first part, then in part two it was never explained how he actually got out of the Pandorica in the 1st place.
Matt Smith is pretty good as the Doctor. However the writers often gloss over things to move the story on, which after such enticing cliffhangers just feels lazy, and annyoing to watch.

I figure he will put it together from a bunch of old parts, and a broken sonic, hence why it looks differently than the original tennant one

Looks like it is the slide off of the hero Sonic used in the Eleventh Hour put in a Aztec with a belt clip screwed on for some reason. Very cool.

Could be a CT but why spend 300.00+ and hack it up when you have a box full of sonics that you could use for free? It looks like an Aztec stunt handle with the hero head on it.

I only think they had two Tennant hero sonics, one of which they gave to DT. It would probably be cheaper to buy a couple of CTs than machine their own again. Remember the hero versions were virtually made by hand and the Aztec versions have fragile resin bodies.

If it is a future sonic, then it needs a load more work on it. I don't understand what they are trying to do with that one.

I expect its one of the early versions of the future sonic. In SitL/FotD It looked to me like it had been built up over time...

I always took it that the doctor gave her the sonic the last night he saw her before she came to the library. Hopefully not since I really like River Song which is funny because I couldn't stand her in any other role before.

I am really excited to see how they handle that story arch after this season. They did such a good job with 5 that I want more (NOW!!!!!) :lol

Can't wait for the Christmas special.
and there had better not be a steam operated cyber king in it :lol

I think we're overlooking a very simple explanation. The Doctor probably built River's Sonic right after her 'death'. The other modifications (the red mode) were probably built by River (she is quite adept at operating and modifying The Doctor's technology). When he gives her the sonic, it probably looks like Tennant's standard Sonic.

Someone else said this before, but if you watch SitL, she says he gives her the sonic the last time she sees him, which is just before she comes to the Library. Speaking of that Ep, I wonder, would anyone try their hands at making the wooden art deco looking cam bot?

I'd love to see that made, but it would probably require some pretty rare skills to actually make it out of wood.

Wow, they used his sonic on the show? And then completely modded it to keep it in one spot, heh. Interesting to say the least! Look forward to seeing clearer pictures!

I do wonder if it is supposed to be the precursor to the River Sonic seen in SitL. Yay for seeing another varient!
