New Nemesis PADD

I got my hands on another CABIN CL-5000P.
Im going to turn it into a Nemesis PADD

I've just finished making (actually printing) the graphics.
The graphics are two layers of inkjet transparencies, one printed normally and the other in mirror, and glued together using clear double faced tape.

Unfortunately won't be able to finish it, because I don't have heating in the garage (where I do my painting).

I did this so there is no light leaking through the black, as I'm going to stick it to the surface.
This actually looks way better than when I place them under the screen.

The pictures below don't show the actual effect (damned flash)

That looks great! Do they no longer sell CABIN CL-5000Ps? Where'd you go about finding one? This is a project I'd love to try.

Thanks,

They no longer make these, but you might be able to find them on ebay.
Unfortunately the sellers on ebay USA know what they are selling. And they know how rare they have become, so they will cost a lot on ebay USA ($100-$130, or more).

Living in Europe I've learned to check international, and sometimes I get lucky and find one from a seller who doesn't know about the star trek connection.

That's how I got this one, I found it on ebay UK, and paid £ 22.50 ( $ 33.50), incuding shipping to the Netherlands.

cool Padd! The okudagrams are nice a sharp too.

Thanks, the padd still needs paint, but this setup was just to show the graphics.

The graphics turned out really well, there is no light "bleeding" through the black.
Not bad for a 90 euro inkjet printer.

The PADD is nearly finished, I'm waiting for some black and gold vinyl for the button pad which should arrive this week then I'll post some pics.

OK, so I just found out my vinyl is not going to arrive this week, so here's a little preview:

The silver vinyl and the "scroll bars" are done, the screen graphics have been mounted, all it needs is the black control surface and the buttons.

Looks great man! I am excited to get mine too. I found my lightboxes on a used photography equipment site online. Granted it was about 3 yrs ago now, but I got one new for $40, and one used for $30. I agree that by now most people sell them as trek props so the price is high, but you might get lucky with one of the larger models. Again, it was a while back, and it wasnt cheap, but it was still less than you pay for the "PADD" lightbox now.

You may want to try going a little more blue with your LCARS to match the Nemesis versions. You can also pick up some of Ricks original graphics right now on eBay. Thats what I used, and they are already printed on transparency. I attached a pic below to show you. I am very happy with how mine came out. I wish I didnt have the black line on the left side though and I wiffed on the paint color for the power button.
