Hello RPF community,

My name is Jordan. I am located in Tampa FL and am in the tech industry. I also do a lot of carbon fiber work on the side and that's what really brought me here. I recently had a cosplay customer that wanted a small EV foam gun molded and made into carbon fiber. I've always wanted to do some cosplay stuff and even attend a few events. However, my past jobs have prevented me from really getting into it. Now that I have a lot more time to do things I want and a nicer workshop, I tend to work on things almost every night. I also come from the show car scene, that's how I fell into making carbon fiber things. I've left the car scene and am following something i've been wanting to do for ages.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what amazing things this community has made and hope to learn a lot during the process. Maybe even attempt to build something in the near future!

Hope to make some new friends and keep being a kid at heart!

Hello All,

My wife and I are Leather Workers who mostly make RenFaire Gear, but on occasion have made cosplay pieces like Jedi Belts, Blaster Holsters, and Sword Belts for Star Wars, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, and LOTR fandoms.
I first, recognizably, came here a few weeks ago, when I was researching a propmaker selling resin blaster/phaser/gun kits. I think Ive been here before but wasnt paying much attention other than for research. I dont have a collection of props but Ive always loved seeing them and hoped one day to have a few.
I would like to say thank you just for being here. This website is a great research tool.

Edit;
Now I remember I was looking for a buckle similar to one worn by Jack Sparrow.

hi!

do you still make Jedi belts?

john

hello everyone
i hope i can learn a lot with you all, i am a prop maker very low experience but we have to start from somewhere. i m a youtuber and my channel its the best this i ever done, i have made a lot of projects in 3 months

Greetings,

I recently found this site and it looks fun and a good source of info.
Professionally I do just about all things digital graphics.
I've gotten into embroidery and looking into sewing at some point, which brought me here.
The digital is fine, but analog will always be more rewarding.

Hello everyone! I don't know why but I never searched for a community like this but I am really excited to be part of it.
My name is Nick Zabbatino I own a fabrication store Big Apple Props and a website Customfoamletters.
We are a family run business and the first project we ever made was for ourselves. This 10ft Hulk in the picture is located in front of my shop.
We have pictures on our website for you to see some of the cool stuff we made. Kids love to pass by and take photos with the Hulk and
Spider man. We fell in love with this business of making custom foam props, Logos and letters.

I have spent many sleepless nights inventing new ways to not only producing things faster but giving the best craftsmanship possible.
Sadly nobody helped us and when I would try to find information or ask other prop builders questions they just brushed me off. Now I am
regarded as a pretty knowledgeable person and have had phone calls asking me advice from the same people who wouldn't give me the
time of day. If your wondering yes I did help and even complete paid projects for them. For that reason I hope I can be an asset to anyone struggling to fabricate with foam. I lead a pretty busy life but when available I will always help whoever I can. I'm sure I will also learn a lot on here very excited.

Hello, my name is Tony. I’ve been building models for years, off and on. Occasionally professionally. I’m the creative director at a small research lab in Silicon Valley. A few months ago I wanted to buy a good quality version of Luke’s Green Lightsaber. The more I looked around, the more I realized that there isn’t “a perfect version”. In the end I built (CAD, 3D printing, lots of putty & paint) my own “best of”. It’s based, mostly, on the V1 & V2 versions from “Return of the Jedi“ & the hero prop from the “Last Jedi”. Anyway it was a fun reintroduction to the hobby. I also restore old toys. I’ve attached a few pictures of my work.

Hello community. I am here to be with people that have the same sickness. I am a professional model builder with tons of fabrication background, but then I went digital. So I still love to make stuff for myself and my kids, so I am here to hopefully make a contribution or two. Here is a quick model I did last year for my son that wanted to be "Pyro" from Team Fortress 2 and the Shotgun from the same game for "Scout". I like incorporating electronics into my builds. I did silk flames for the flamethrower...

I'd just like to say "Hello" to everyone and thanks for having me here. I've been meaning to join the forum since it was suggested to me back in the early 2000's, but for some reason, I just never got around to it as normally I'm not the type of guy who goes down the forum route, but The RPF seems to be a wide ranging place in terms of the topics covered, so that just suits me right down to the ground. That said, I did used to run another relatively well known forum, but when I got married and started a family, I handed over the keys as I wanted to concentrate on all the real world stuff.

Obviously I like to make things, that's why I'm here of course. I've made props and models for various outlets, TV, Film and exhibitions, designed and made replicas for commercial release and I've also dabbled in toy design too, one of which won toy of the year back in 2007 I think it was. These days I make stuff for fun, make stuff for clients and run a channel on YouTube where I demonstrate whatever it is I'm currently working on. It's fun, but hard work, especially when you're a one man team.

I hope that I can share my work with the community in due course.

Hi,

I'm new here, in Virginia now, but lived in LA for 8+ years. I've been making costumes since I was about 10 years old. Found this site because I'm hoping to throw a Harry Potter holiday party this year and see what other design and prop ideas there is on here. I'm also hoping to get into con-level costumes and lolita cosplay inspired outfits. I'd like to get into cobbling and millinery to complete outfits from scratch.

Hello from Downunder!
Just joined a short time ago (literal time, today is 21 Nov 2019). Found this site via a link on a Harry Potter fan page.
Although I'm not into actually making replica's, prop's, costume's etc. for others. I try to make stuff for myself, as I often get invited to themed parties/events. I like craft, but am far from being talented enough to be a professional. I'm hoping to find some inspiration & maybe pick up some basic crafting techniques along the way, from this community.
If I need to be a pro at making stuff, please let me know... so I'm not wasting your time on this site.

I find the quality of prop's and costumes here in Australia, are extremely low. Making items myself is my best options. Unfortunately I am unable to work due to permanent illness and living in the outback. Crafting is a hobby I love and can still do, but I'm limited as to length of time I am able to spend crafting. So both time & money are obstacles... but I keep smiling, as I can still do a little of my crafting.
Cheers Emz

Forgot to mention... I love medieval times. Roleplay is a lot of fun too.
I use to live in Brisbane (one of Australia's cities), where I joined a medieval group SCA (Society of Creative Acronym). The SCA is a worldwide organisation with small groups scattered everywhere. We hand make our own garb & armour (including chainmail, which takes forever to handmake). Note that the armour must be made to a certain standard/code, before you are able to fight in tournaments. Due to the serious danger of actually dying, the SCA does not allow jousting. Nor real blades or arrow tips. They use other materials, so they can really get into the spirit of fighting. We sign wavers, in case of injury (a broken rib, cuts & bruises etc). A Marshall (referee) tallies points (scored when making blows upon your opponent, depending on strength & placement of blow scores more or less). Heaps of fun and good friends to be meet. Even if you're not interested in being in a group, look out for medieval festivals. It's a great atmosphere, full of fighting, food & drink (mead & cider, homemade of course). Most festivals are open to the public to come along and view. Unfortunately non-members are unable to participate in fighting, mainly as they have not been trained in this style of fighting.
They have archery, rapier and heavy. Rapier is now commonly known as fencing (the thin swords & face masks). Heavy is everything else used to fight that is hand held (broad sword, long sword, axes, maces, clubs, staves, spears, pikes etc.). The heavy fighting tournament allows you to fight with your choice of weapon, which is not necessarily the same weapon as your opponent.
Note that although most, including myself, use our sewing machines to make our garb. I have also handsewn a couple of full outfits.
Bartering is a strong currency in the SCA. I made an outfit in exchange for a handmade drinking horn. From a fellow member, who's chosen character was a Viking. My chosen character was a lowly peasant girl from central Italy. I designed my own family coat of arms and small character background.

Welcome aboard, Emz, and please don't worry about your level of crafting or (lack of) skill(s).
Just enjoy your stay here.Good to have you here

Hello, My name is Suzana.

I am not sure what to say. I love to cosplay ad I try my best to make my own costumes and props. I love to try new techniques in costume/prop making and have been venturing on designing costumes and props from scratch. I hope to post some of my progress here. My next project is Jannah from the next Star Wars movie. I just decided (this morning) to make it for the film release. Hopefully it will be done in time (fingers crossed).

My dream projects are Lady Sif from Thor The Dark World (have been working on the chainmail on my free time for a few months now), Belle's yellow ball dress from the live action Beauty and the Beast (one day I'll have enough money for all tha fabric) and Jasmine also from the live action.

I did cosplay Rey from The Force Awakens in 2015 and my main source of information for this build was this thread from RPF (Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!))

Hello everyone-
My name is Jerry and have only been directed here somewhat recently but I have been blown away by the levels of creativity an artistry that you all have in your craft. I am actually a collector of vintage WWI & WWII military items and have my own physical store "the military collectibles shop" near Milwaukee, WI that I have run for the past 18 years. (In addition to my "real" job(s) where I work in AV and teach communications and film at a local College. It is from my military collection addiction that I got into collecting some screen used props for War movies- starting with Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, then the Pacific, Fury, and even a patch from the 1950s movie "Go for Broke". Always looking for more bits to add to the collection. I have been a lifelong Star Wars fan and built my first light saber out of a pipe and hot pink painted broomstick the day after I saw it in 1977. I recently completed an E-11 blaster build with the help of a friend, and now am onto a Jawa blaster, and maybe one of the D-44's. I also picked up graphlex and a mpp that I hope to do saber builds if I can ever find more time. But at least I can vicariously through many of you and your talented builds. If anyone has military memorabilia or video related questions I am happy to help out!
