Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **
Hello all,
I should have joined this forum a long time ago. I'm an engineer that is a Star Wars fan, and a fan of anything technical. I've always been interested in how things work, digging things like blueprints and diagrams. I really like seeing old behind-the-scenes photos of the sets and crew of Star Wars movies. It's interesting to figure how they made sets and did special effects in the '70s and '80s. Watching the Star Wars movies as a kid, I gotta say I was much more intrigued by the flashing lights and tech that went into the sets more than I cared about the movie characters.
So anyway, I am building a Star Wars movie set in my den. I like the "future space" look of the Star Wars architecture that artist Ralph McQuarrie was able to conceptualize for George Lucas. It is more beautiful than the typical copycat early American & Colonial architecture and furnishings that we live in daily in our homes. So I picked one room in my house to surround myself with McQuarrie / Lucas inspired pieces.
So far I have built (or am still building) these:
* Star Wars-style split doorway, with a control panel, LED lights throughout
* A box to support a computer, LED lighted with a red Rebel logo on it
* A platform with lighted edge, similar to the orangey steps in the carbon freezing scenes
* A chair mat with an Imperial logo, LED lighted from underneath
* An 8-foot long computer desk with a shelf above, decorated with Millennium Falcon controls
* A window covering, closely resembling the Millennium Falcon window grid
* Wall details, all the way around the room it's Death Star hallway walls
* Tile walkway on the floor, reminds me of the walk grids on the ship floors
I have only posted one thread with several construction photos so far, and have been AMAZED at the helpful responses. Thanks. See my thread below...
