Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all,
Well I have been registered for a year or so now, but not very active on the forum. I got into costuming about a year and a half ago, always loved 80s slashers so I went on to make my first costume last year, a Jason Voorhees FvJ version. Originally I came across the forum via google, looking up all kinds f costuming tips and tricks.

Soon after I got an email talking about the compromise of the site and I simply stayed away for a while. Now I am back and have a handful of costumes in the work, and love this site for browsing and learning, along with the gaggle of other sites I am pretty active on. Some in the works are:

Jason Voorhees (part 7 New Blood)
Batman
Bane
Hobo Michael myers

Anyway, about me personally, I am active in the U.S. Navy, being doign that for 9 years, so about 11 to go. I am here and look forward to sharing any knowledge I may have and absorbing everything I can from you folks here. So when I do ask my million questions, dont be to upset :behave.

Thanks

Jerome

Hello, my name is Atis Ruchirawat (nickname = Art) and I am a fellow collector from Bangkok, Thailand. I've been a regular visitor of this forum for a while but have just decided to join in the fun. I've actually worked for 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers here in Thailand (screenplay adaptation) which means, I basically write/translate the Thai screenplay equivalent for dubbing and sub-titles. I collect mainly Star Wars items as well as movie props. I am a member of the 501st Legion and was the only Thai person to participate in the 2007 Rose Parade. Feel free to PM me anytime. Thank you for reading.

New here, lurked around the RPF for a few weeks now. I do a sport/larp called Dagorhir and build armor using leather and steel(when I get the chance.)

I don't necessarily just build props, I've always preferred to use my own designs and make them into functional armor, my first attempt away from this is an Ironman mk6 helm using the sharkman mod with a few mods to the pattern out of leather.

Edit: My other projects will be working on some of the armor from The Hobbit, once more information comes out on what they have.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings all,

I am a long time costumer. I am a member of a community service organization called Heroes Alliance that focuses not only on costuming at conventions and such, but helping to make a difference in our community, through hospital visits to sick children as superheroes, toys for tots fundraisers and much more.

My costume and prop wardrobe stays mostly within the realm of DC and Marvel type costumes but I am expanding my wardrobe selection. I have been making my own costumes for years and have decided to expand into making props instead of just purchasing them or relying on friends for help.

I am new to the realm of prop making but from what I have seen on here so far it looks like a great place to begin the adventure. I am hoping to use the knowledge of others here to design props that can be used at our charity events. For me, there is nothing better than to bring a smile to the face of a child who is sick or has been in terrible situations in life. Seeing them smile at seeing a favorite hero or object that was used in their favorite cartoons or comics, makes everything my group does worth every minute.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings everyone.

I'm a longtime costume and props enthusiast with very minimal build or sewing skills until now. Most of my costume builds to this point have been collections of bits and pieces I've been able to find or have commissioned. Slowly I'm working on projects to get myself more experienced in foam crafting and sewing and I'm really excited to work on some new stuff!

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice!

I so want to dress as Cyborg Jason from Jason X some time.

Congrats... you're almost halfway to retirement. It never gets said enough, but thank you for serving our great nation.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings and salutations from Newfoundland, Cananda... at least, temporarily.

In the real world, I'm a mild-mannered analyst who has a pretty eclectic background: I have been a secretary; a cryptologist; a "Beltway Bandit"; and a project manager for a couple things back home in Texas. Kinda mundane stuff, but ya play to your strengths, ya know?

At conventions, I bust out the costumes and let the drama queen out. I've been known to wander around as Batgirl, Abigail Whistler (Blade: Trinity), Victoria (from RED), and Emma Peel (The [Original] Avengers). As an Atlanta native, I've attended Dragon*Con most every year since 1994; I've been costuming since I was (as my grandmother says) knee-high to a grasshopper, starting with a tinfoil tiara, bracelets, and a burlap Golden Lasso. =)

About a year ago, my husband took a position that sent us for temporary duty here in Newfoundland. Since I can't quite do here what I used to, I'm trying to channel my energy into finishing my novel and practicing my sewing. So, of course, I'm over here on RPF, spending (too much) time doing "research."

Last year, I pulled together an interrogation scene Black Widow, a WWII-style nose art pin-up (as a "mascot" for a friends' company), and Beckett from "Castle". The pin-up and Beckett costumes went over well; the Black Widow not so much -- though I did get sympathy for the knee "injury" and the tear in my stockings. ;)

For D*C this year, things are still up in the air. The only definite is an Avengers Black Widow, as my husband has decided to go as Hawkeye. Beyond that, I'm considering Shayera/Hawkgirl (JLU/JLA) or Margo Lane (The Shadow). We'll see what I end up with. I keep hearing that winter in Newfoundland is a great time to sew...

Just joined this week... Love this place! Don't know why I didn't find it sooner. I'm just getting into movie props and I've already seen some collections from other members that have inspired me to fulfill my collections Wish List.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello. Out of the blue I decided to make a costume for my 11 year old son. One thing led to another and he figured he should be master Chief...I said not. So he picked Shepard from Mass Effect, I sighed and said OK. I made his costume that I will call more of an inspired by...than replica of N7 armor. Once his was more or less complete I had this brain wave that I should have one to. So a month later I have my costume more or less finished. I can't paint as I live i Canada..to cold outside. I am including a photo my daughter took of me in my semi-finished armor. The goophy look on my face was me trying to tell her something as she took the pix. Anyway. This is my first attempt at this kinda thing and I think I did ok with a heat gun, exacto knife, glue gun and ruler. I have added lighting to the helmet and back and a voice changer in the helmet since the pic was taken.
Once I am finished I will post pix with lighted suit and with propper exposure. I have to admitt...I had fun doing this and am allready looking at other games for my next project.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi,

I'm Mike from sunny Wales in the UK.

I've been collecting and creating props with varying degrees of success over the last 30 years, I have been very lucky in the past as I've known a few old actors and actresses who have given me a lot of items which I would never get rid of due to the personal attachment, other items in my collection include everything from Abyss to Zardoz - I did at one time many years ago do an A-Z of Movie Props collecting 2-3 from each letter - that took some doing as you could imagine but I go *** done eventually, now I collect Star Trek, Stargate, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and anything else that I think looks cool.

I started making props about 10 years ago and although I don't think I'm that good a few of my items have been used by the BBC in Doctor Who and Torchwood, and I've also made a few on request, but don''t do that now as people want to much nowadays, I might still take on a challenge now and again but only if I feel I can do it, (you may send me a request for something if you like and I'll look into it and let you know how long and how much, if I have materials already and it wont take too long I may even do it fro free and just charge you shipping as long as you acknowledge me as its creator.) anyway enough of that.

I'm currently working on a number of projects and any help from anyone here would be grateful, I creating the following items from Indiana Jones Mythology.

The Grail Diary - in progress:facepalm
Abner Ravenwoods Ark Diary - researching:wacko
Oxleys Diary of the Chrystal Skull - researching:facepalm
Young Indian Jones Journal - in progress:wacko
and "The Missing years from Indiana Jones lost Journal" - researching:facepalm

as you can see there's a lot of work to be done so anything anyone can help with including maps, photos, text, etc would be of great help and I intend to include a insert for each with all the acknowledgements of those who helped - these are for my private collection and depending on how long and more importantly how good they are I might decide to make a limited number to sell on, and those who helped will get first choice, I know these things go for a lot on the net and as I said I'm not a prop-maker by trade but I'm not to bad, so I'm told

well I've rambled on enough now so hope to here from anyone soon

regards

Mike from South Wales, UK

Hi !
I'm Arnianor from Switzerland. I'm a young Vader at the 501st, and have some interst into cosplaying.

What did I craft ? Mainly leather straps, belts, ageing some pieces or small modifications on armors.
I'm still a beginner, and actually doing my costumes by "assembling" them (getting a piece from A, another from B, etc, adapting them to work together and then it makes a costume).

Evening everyone, stumbled upon this amazing site by chance.

I dont have much of a prop collection......so far. I'm currently building an NSD Dalek of the Ironside variety, my kids fault.
It's about 75% done, loads to do. Want it finished for next year.

Hi, i'm Lemorace from So Cal.
i am by no means a model maker, or anything near skilled with terms, or tools or tricks, but would love to learn, i enjoy exploring the things that push me, and my patience. I stumbled upon this forum through YouTube, while watching a "last hope" conference with Myth Busters Adam Savage, and he had made a reference to this wonderful forum.....maybe one day, ill be able to contribute something. Until then, i'm taking notes.
