Hello,
As a casual forum reader I've been visiting the RPF on and off for some time now. I've always enjoyed the genuine appreciation for the art within cinema and of course the shared information & enthusiasm with regards to film props and costumes.
As a film-maker (short subject) and VFX artist myself, I am glad to finally be a part of this community. I'm often pretty busy, but I look forward to occasionally dropping by to be part of the always great discussions... and maybe to share some of my own work.
In short, I'm happy to be part of such a passionate forum.

Hello all,

I have been lurking for sometime, read quite a few threads, and I have been inspired. Currently I have a Dum Dum Dugan costume, sorry no wip pics. I will post up some pics eventually. I must say though: with a few patches, tactical webbing, and a hot glue gun one can be very inventive.

I've read the entire pep thread, I am ready to take the plunge. I would like to make a pep helmet of Kamen Rider, or Power Rangers. If that works out I am really into an Ultimate Iron Man armor. Working on my Dugan costume I played with eva foam, I still need more practice with my cutting, but I would like to incorporate both mediums into my build.

Well I will be around, gathering materials, and knowledge.

Hello everyone,

I stumbled on this forum thread about Sucker Punch costumes in search for information on a SP costume I'm making. I was surprised to see such a creativity and talent in costume and prop making! :thumbsup I've been lurking here for a few months and decided to register because of the Halloween Contest. I'm thinking about entering the contest but first I have to see if I can finish the costume on time! :eek

I am a big lotr fan and made a few Arwen costumes some years ago. This year I made an Assassin's Creed Ezio costume and I'm in the process of finishing a Sweet Pea for myself. The costumes are worn at the yearly Elf Fantasy Fairs in the Netherlands which is the biggest fantasy fair in Europe. It's held on a beautiful and big castle ground and garden. On my web site I have many pictures of the fairs, visit the site link in my profile. I also have photo tutorials on my costume making but it's in Dutch though.

It's great to have found this forum, I love all your inputs and hard work! I'll be visiting it often. Looking forward to see the Halloween contest unfolding! :popcorn

A photo of Rick Grimes led me here... and now I think I'm a little obsessed. Hello everyone! :)

My name is Jolie! I'm from Ontario, Canada. I love comic books and produce a comic book review show with some friends of mine called the Comic Book Syndicate. When it comes down to skits and scripted work I'm always that one pulling costumes together... so I think I'm going to like this place!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all,

Found this site from a youtube video about props and things from the TV show Dexter.

I thought also it would be a treat for you guys to let you know the real truth and not to let the lie propagate like it has for 15 years.

The truth is this.

I created Dexter more than 30 years ago. It really does come from child abuse. While father is swinging me by my ankles slamming me into the wall smashing over lamps and such a song was in my mind that kept me sane. The song is sung by clint holmes- playground of my mind.
I was only 6 years old or so(1973) By age 14 I turned him into a serial killer as my invisible character that kept me sane seemed to be too fake and I knew I had to make him more real to keep myself/mind at ease.

In 1997 Jeff Lindsay met me online and like him and others on the website forum (about 20 of us) were shooting off ideas for a new tv show.
I decided to submit my serial killer who kills only other serial killers to teh site. Many people did not like the idea but 5 others sent me whispers to create a new thread just for them so I can explain further why my character metis so much attention.

It was then I told Jeff Lindsay that he was a serial killer who only kills other serial killers. He then asked if I wanted to be compensated and then asked me for my real name and I gave it to him.

HE then in a few moments started bragging he was going to take my character away from and said there was nothing I could do about it and that even if I did go public that nobody would believe be because who he is married to. Many people were like " /facepalm" saying sorry to me.

Well the next day I was going to continue this online fight but that was not going to happen. The next day walking to work I was indirectly hit by lightning and I was sent to ER. For 2 years I was messed up in the head over bad weather and the drama of that day and for the first 2 years made me totally forget about the days previous events.

I just got my memory back this past earyl June or so. It could have been late may... again bad memory due to being hit.

But 15 years went by before I got my memory back and I was at the time so happy and angry when the memries started comming back. To know I am out of recognition because someone lied.

Well I am here to set the record straight. Jeff Lindsay did not name Dexter and neither did I. It was some Dexter Laboratory nerd who gave him that name.

I am not lying to you guys and I will be going to court against Jeff Lindsay on this matter.
He does know of me and he does know my real name as we had interaction in 1997.

I never had a story of Dexter because he was a part of my real life.
Many fans are asking I must have had a story line about him and no I did not.
Dexter was just there as a buffer to keep me sane from my father insane beatings.

I will keep telling the above truth until I go to my grave.

Not saying I believe a single word, but if you did not copyright your ideas and did in fact share those ideas on a free forum for anyone to see and use, then you don't legally have a leg to stand on. my dad invented Bell bottom jeans and that little tray on the back of pushchairs toddlers stand on years before they went on the market. He never patented his ideas and so has no legal claim to them. The idea belongs to the guy who patented or copyrighted it first. Sorry, but you snooze you loose.

Hello, I'm Tova Oleander.

I'm very new to the costume and prop scene. I actually came here to learn. It's something I really love to do, but the extent of my costuming and cosplaying has been assembling costumes from my local disguises store, piecing together an assassin's outfit one year (pretty proud of that one), sewing together some cloth to make an archer's costume (it was horrible, don't even ask about it), and crafting a money pouch for another character out of leather. I'm here now to learn the tips and tricks from the pros. Oh, my girlfriend might use this account, too. She's my LARP buddy. She's awesome. Just thought I'd make you jealous. ;)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I'm a collector from Canada with a particular interest in collecting screen used props and costumes from Stargate, Sanctuary, BSG and Xena. Looking to connect with likeminded people. I'm starting to focus my collecting to significant female characters in Sci-fi and fantasy.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all.

I've been lurking here for a few days now and thought I'd do the introduction thing and get that out of the way.

So, hey! I'm a newcomer to the whole prop and costume scene, in terms of making multi piece costumes anyway. Currently I'm gaining some experience working with those EVA foam mats and other assorted thinner/thicker foams. I have some experience in painting and effects on props such as weathering and mock texturing.

It's something that I'd love to do and make money doing it, but for right now i'm working at the kitchen table, (which is driving my girlfriend insane haha) and having to paint my creations in the street or hanging from a clothesline. We have spare rooms, so perhaps soon I'll talk the lady into letting me set up shop in one of those.

Current projects are painting and practising paint and weathering on some guns, but mostly finishing up my Dr. Zed costume for Halloween, which has pretty much everything except the gloves and scrubs made from scratch, including a Psycho Bandit sized Buzz Axe :) .

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi I´m Karin,

I´m quite new to cosplay or costume-making. I´ve only made one costume so far (its Zuko from A:TLA). But since „Thor“ and „The Avengers“ I´m a fan of marvel-stuff and especially the character Loki. I started to craft the Loki-costume from the movie „Thor“ and plan also to make a comicbook version... . Maybe I find here some good ideas how to succeed. ^^

Hi everyone,

My name is Mike and I am from the Seattle area (NW USA). I haven't ever done any sort of prop making, but decided to do an Iron Man costume. So far, so fun. I won't say good, but fun.

Thanks in advance for all the advice and comradeship that I am sure will be spread around.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, Everyone! My name is Chris. I live in Virginia and have been very interested lately in the design and creation of various types of masks. My brothers have also shown interest in a collaborative effort to get some lifecasts started for the purpose of mask making... but they have bested me with their initiative and started getting into the Pepakura process, with some nice results. So, I'm here to gather and share information on different mask making tecniques.

Hello, I'm Dred from Iowa. I have zero experience and I'd like to build a proton pack and an arc reactor. I love movies and would like to have something I've made in my small collection of props. I'll spend the next few months researching and I'll start early next year. There's a lot of talent on this forum. I'm glad I found it.
