Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone,

My name is Shane I've been a builder for decades I mainly concentrated on period accurate armour made from steel. I started in high school building armor I've since graduated to restoring period armor 450 year old samurai for my collection. I'm that guy who pays atension to every detail and is not satisfied till its perfecti love Halloween and have actually worn out the samurai well most of iti had to make a steel chest and back myself using period patterns. Anyways enough bout that. I now am working on making a solid steel ironman suit that is movie accurate other that my own twists on it. I joined to find like minded people who may be able to offer insite and provide expertise I do not have.

Hello all

I'm a comic book fan, comic con goer, soccer playing, marvel fan boy,and wanna be spider- from the Cleveland area. I want to know more about the art of costume and prop making and buy more props and costumes. I'd appreciate any help I can get on both matters. Thanks all!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi, all.
I'm a fan of SF and mistery movies and books, and a mini prop collector.
I'm very unable to build anything, but I spend too much to buy.
I'm a COW member, because I'm principally an Indiana Jones fan and I have some props.
I thought to have a lot, until I discovered COW and RPF.
Now I'm enlarging my interests in National Treasure, so I signed for RPF.

About IJ I have a lot of maps and other paper prop ( a lot thanks to COW members), and some items from movies, comics and PC games.

About NT I have the Independence Declaration ( purchased in Boston) and I had the Book of Secrets from a COW member, and I hope the mail service dispatched it to me very soon.

Sorry for my English.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings. I love this forum. There are so many great ideas and I'm blown away by the attention to detail.

I started costuming two years ago. I had a sewing machine laying around and figured that if others could sew then so could I. Going to a con in costume is so much more fun than going as a spectator.

My girlfriend and I are looking forward to Dragon*Con in a few weeks. I can't wait! If you see Power Girl and Ms. Marvel holding hands, that's probably us.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey guys
This is my first post. I came across this forum after watching a lot of Adam Savage videos on YouTube. When I was younger I used to build all kinds of models and things. After awhile my parents steered me away from making insisting I start focusing on getting a normal job. I just want to say thanks to Adam Savage for sparking the interest to start making things again. I already have a long list of projects that I can't wait to start. Let's see Luke's ANH Lightsaber, 3ft Long Star Destroyer with fiber optics, 1/72 Millennium Falcon with lights and someday an R2. The best part is I’m an adult with my own place so no one can tell me I can’t……..wait I forgot about my wife :)

I found this site a few months ago looking for stuff to build a Keaton/89 Batman costume. I have been lurking ever since. Recently made an account in order to participate and I have to say that I am highly impressed by you guys. Hopefully I will have a thread soon with one of my builds.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings, New poster, long time lurker. I'm fairly new to making props replica or otherwise. mostly I'm a leather worker. but I'm big into fallout so I have decided to join up just to show off my works in progress.

Hello,

I just joined RPF today, looking for good ideas and finding lots of them. I'm a 17 year motion picture professional dealing with post production - everything that happens after those astounding models and props get shot.

I look forward to learning and contributing to this group.

Thanks,

Todd

Hey from the Deep South

Hi yall,

I've been looking around this forum for a minute and finally joined when I was seeking advice about a project. I've been into costuming on and off for about 20 yrs now, I've attended a number of sci-fi cons and now that we own a house, I use my skills to make Halloween yard displays, props and costumes. Here is a good example:
This was me last Halloween ----> View attachment 105561 and my yard display---->View attachment 105562
Anywho, I am always on the lookout for new methods and materials to acheive whatever effects I am seeking in props and costume building, and I am not above cannabilizing existing items to get the parts I like lol! If you will notice, the flying saucer is made from a fiberglass satellite dish and a metal mesh satellite dish slapped together. I am in search of that one costume that no one else has made, and that is geeting hard to do when I see the pics from Comic Con and DragonCon depicting every movie and comic character under the sun! But it is good to see so many others who share my fondness for this hobby, and I hope to be able to aid someone sometime somehow with their project.

Hi everyone, my name is Tyler and I've known of the RPF for quite some time now so I decided to join. I'm a filmmaker and I own my own film company and I also run my own fan fiction forum websites. I have never owned any replica props and I'm hoping to find some and possibly might use them in some of my fan films and also to find more info about the props to add to my fan fiction sites. I'm a huge Men In Black and Starship Troopers fan so those are the replica props I'm looking for.

Hey all. My name is Rogue, and I've been off and on the site a few times, and oft heard it referenced. I was just starting work on a few new projects and all signs led me here for guidance, and I figured, this really is the place to be; I should sign up! Hoping I can chip in a little to the knowledge pool eventually, but for starters, I look forward to basking in your vast experience!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings good folks! It's been a long time since I've been a part of a message board forum (we're talking late '04).

Basic story: life-long geek with the desire to replicate the things I love with use of any talents and resources I may have.

As an on-again, off-again hobbyist I stuck mainly to model kits and scale replicas, mostly Star Wars, Star Trek, comics, anime, and what-not. Studied studio art in school, with emphasis in painting, so I tried using that background in my hobbying endeavors.

Recently, I've been trying to get back into the game, so to speak, working with makeup and prosthetics, heading more into the cosplay world for an eventual trip to Comic Con. I've found a lot of what I learned in school's art world actually applies in the hobbying world as well (that's why they call it "learning!" :p).

I found this place while searching for ways on how to make an authentic Spider-Man mask. The one you call MCL34N is one of the most brilliant artisans I've seen in all my ventures across the InterWeb!

I come here to learn and grow, speak with people who know their craft, and share points-of-view about different topics. This is a good time to be a geek and pop culture enthusiast! Thanks for letting me sign up guys!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello, my name is Al.

I don't remember how I found this site, because it was so long ago. I've spent all my time for a few years now just gawking at what others were doing instead of taking the initiative and actually getting things done. That time is over. I've been more than encouraged by what I've seen here, and owe you folks a debt of gratitude already. It's been too long coming.

I'm hoping to make a living by creating props in the long run. I'm only really good with my hands anyway, and the way I figure it, this is the only way of living that really makes sense.

I'm currently working on a four by four foot custom Risk board (because I'm a huge nerd), and once I figure out where to put the thread, I'll post it. I am overjoyed to have found this community, and look forward to learning from all of you.

Thanks again.
