Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all my name is Matt Smith (yeah yeah I know Dr.Who but I'm not the Dr.) however I heard about this forum through one of Adam Savage's talks about his Dodo and Maltese Falcon obsessions.

I'm currently doing a design degree at university and I'm currently at the beginnings of having interests in prop design and creation. I've had a big background in 3D design and for a long time have had troubles finding a route that could turn into a career until my tutors recommended props which I've discovered really interests me and challenges myself to try new things :) .

Thank you and I'm hoping to post my work in progress and creation to recieve feedback and ways to improve for the next project :D

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone!

I just registered here the other day after seeing all the amazing things people have been doing here...WOW. I have attempted to make costumes before, but with paper mache, and no help from the internets. Needless to say, I failed. Since then, I've always wanted to make something like an Iron Man suit or a Star Wars costume. Found this place, saw some awesome people and tutorials, Dreams == fulfilled. This is going to be awesome.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

May as well post here. My names Chris, been visiting the RPF for years now, but only just registered, currently making an Iron Man helmet for my 9 year old nephew - currently at the Bondo/car filler stage. From the UK.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey

Ive been lurking around for some time now and finally decided to make an account and start posting. Now I would like to start building some props mostly from videogames and sci-fi movies. Problem is I have no idea how to begin.

I recently moved out and do not have a lot of tools available to me, I have a hot glue gun and thats about it. Now I've done some papercraft before and some simple electronics and would consider myself a fast learner. I would really appreciate some help in getting started.

Basicly I'm looking for something easy to start with that prefferably doesnt require a huge investment in tools to see if I actually enjoy making stuff as much as I do reading about people making stuff. I myself was thinking about something made out of paper using pepakura and hardening that somehow to make it more robust, I've seen people do it before but myself have no idea how to do this. Any pointers or advice is greatly appreciated and I look forward to beeing a part of this awesome community

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I'm a jerk. I never properly introduced myself. My name is Greg, I live in the greater St. Louis metro area (that's code for Illinois, but close enough) and I do a podcast. I have made several costumes, none of which I've shown on here. Maybe someday, I'll get around to doing that. I signed up when I wanted to learn how to build with foam.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone, my name is TheCaptain96 I recently just joined here. I have always been lurking around these forums, there is so much incredible talent around.
I really am a complete newb to costuming but hey if you never try you'll never know :p my goal is to make a 99.99% accurate Captain America TFA and Avengers costumes just for display at home. I love sculpting with clay and wish to be as good as Bob Dullam or Reevz666 someday at making cowls :)

Captain out ;)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone!! Glad to meet you all.

Well, after watching the amazing spiderman movie, I thought the suit was so cool, jumped online, and somehow made my way to this site, and Mcl34n's and El Fett's suit. I thought it was so cool, so after browsing through these forums, looking at all of the awesome projects, I realized that I need a project too. Something to keep my hands and mind busy.

So I'm excited to start making...something...except I have no idea where to start making...anything! Haha!! If a kind mber could just point the way for a little noob, you'd be my hero. I'm an artistic person in general, so designing wouldn't be difficult; it's just the actual part of STARTING that leaves me lost.

But yeah. This is exciting, so let's make something cool.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi Everyone. I've been here for a while just never got around to this part of introductions. My name is Rob (obviously). If you are a Doctor Who fan the you probably know me from my website Robs Dr. Who 3D Images and my work on various classic DVDs for 2|Entertain. I also run Who3d.co.uk on the side

I've just finished putting a CNC lathe and simple milling system together and will be starting my own 10th Doctor Sonic build. I have something planned for this one that I've never seen anyone attempt so wish me luck!!. Once I have my post count up and can start a thread for it I will.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings ladies and Gents, I'm from Australia, I've heard about this Forum in many conversations with fello Armor building freinds, now that I'm looking into other costumes I thought it was about time to take the plunge so to speak.

I have made a number of Costumes, making my own Boushh is one of my biggest achievements. Using a dremel at my age was even more so and very therapeutic. My Daughters are into Anime (makes a different spin around the house) my son is very artistic and fellows my passion in the White Armor.
Cheers MJ

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I am Brutus... otherwise known as Das Brutus. Don't let the "Das" fool you... I'm Scottish, not German.

I've been propping now for about a year. Having started on the 405th building my Spartan suit from paper to mold to casting it up out of Flex Foam-it and plastic.

Costumes:

Halo:
Recon / ODST / Reach Spartan
ODST

Star Wars:
Biker Scout (as of yet unfinished)
Manalorian Shadow Trooper
Royal Commando (as of yet unfinished)

Future Builds:
Predator
Gears of War
WarHammer 40k Space Marine
Cletus, the NFL Robot

Being a larger built person, I try to choose costumes that will not look to "chub-chub" when worn, so my options are limited since I seem to always look like a football player in armor.

Well, thats me... 'nuff said

What material do you use to mold over your armor once you finished the whole pepkura process?

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey Everyone!, I'm not sure how active I will be on this but I shall try my hardest to stay informed and active, My main interest on this forum is to find a really nice Batman TDK~TDKR cowl to go with the Batsuit I shall be buying from UD Replicas in the near future! I hope my interactions with everyone on here will be amazing, and I look forward to throwing some money around and having a great time,
Thanks!

Hello :) can't remember if I posted on this thread but I'm Stephanie. I'm working on a Rocketeer costume as well as a couple jedis and a mandalorian.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi! I'm Abby. For now I'm just looking, but I hope to make some awesome props and replicas like you guys in the future! I found this forum trying to find ways to make realistic armor.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey!

My name is Jesse, I'm super new to prop making, but have hovered around this forum for a while. I've made a bunch of one-off costumes and papercraft, so right now I'm really good at working with paper, and some mild sculpting and bondo work.

I just started my first major build (getting a jump on halloween), working on a 1:1 full alien costume. I'm stoked to absorb some advice and check out your amazing builds!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey my name is Cris, I have been costuming since middle school and now I'm getting in to prop making. So, I figured I better join RPF.
I have just stared making my Mando Merc costume and then there are the props that go with it. All my costumes will be so much better with the right props. I can't wait to start building and look forward to all that I can learn

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

hello all, i have been lying low since i joined the old real site, then the hassle, now this one!

i ended up here after just browsing for ironman helmets and what not. then tried making one out of paper which failed badly. especially after the cat made a nest on it.

now i want to build a robocop suit. ive seen it all happening in bits across the interweb but nothing collated in to one. i cant possibly model it myself so am hanging about in eager anticipation.

some projects on here are unbelievable! i have to say, this is a fantastic website! keep it up!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,
I'm very happy to find this forum, I hope I will exchange lot of information with other movie's fans

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

hi, my name is darren, i'm 35, married with 2 boys and i am not sure my correct job title is. suffice it to say :

I have a workshop which includes 1 (soon 2) 3d printers, a lathe, drill press, other tools under construction(autosaw, mill, plastic recycler, etc).

I machine small parts for cars

I print 3d parts which i then finish and then sell either for 3d printers or (e.g.) for custom parts.

I design new parts to be printed

I am a web designer

I am a programmer

I am an artist

I am currently building props that approximate items from stargate, iron man and halo(hello to anyone from the 405th).

In my spare time i sleep(i dont get much spare time)

My current big project is an iron man suit that will fit my 3 year old son for a float parade through the town in which i live which is happening in august... thread to follow...

I am a big fan of scifi so its likely that most of the stuff i'll be posting is sci-fi based. I work in plastic, metal, wood and card/resin(depending on the project)
