New Luke ROTJ hero lightsaber model-Check out pics

Thanks, man!

Looking at those pics made me think of yet another combination of plastic shapes they could have used.

Simply two "L" angle pieces. One to hug the box and go down the side, and the other set on top right side up, just like an "L". Then the brass angle over that.

I'm not sure if there's much you can get from these, but it looks like the additional.set of rails goes up inside the brass rails.

I think it's still happening, but Dan may have another project ahead of this one?

I know he did the Maul, which is awesome (kinda wish I got one), andi thought there was another prequel hilt project. Was it Obi-Wan's TPM?

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to post my most recent control box setup!

Not much has changed, really. Haha. But I do still wonder about the material for the rails, brass or copper? I made some angle copper from sheet stock, and looking at it next to the brass is interesting. I'll have to get a pic of it. It's hard to match the colors of the original. Maybe the traces on the card are actually gold, and not bare copper? Or maybe it's just got oxidation and patina on it that's throwing me off? But the lines on the card and the rails look very similar in color. That's what's weird to me. If the lines are supposed to be copper, and the rails brass, why are they so similar in color?!

Your hero is looking Thanks for the reply. Guess will just have to wait and see, and. See if its fx or static...

What are you guys using for the grey parts under the rails?
I modeled and printed mine, based on Plastruct ABS shapes. (If you go back to page 9 of this thread, you'll see my progression in making them)

I've actually got lots of different Plastruct shapes now, and still need to build the under-rails from the real ABS stock.

But if you need a set of them, send me a PM, I'll need your control box and circuit card dimensions.

Okay, I've finally convinced myself that our original assumption that the rails are indeed brass and not copper was correct. I know most everyone already agrees/knows it. I went to cut a new set of brass rails earlier today and came across a small section with the PERFECT patina on it, basically matching what we see on the Hero. From left, copper, brass, brass and brass!

I'm working on revising my Luke ROTJ hero model.

My old one is still the most accurate out there, I think. But, with today's technology, I think we can get just a little more bang on accurate.
Very exciting times :) After being in this hobby for a few years now your props are always highly reviewed and sought after so I'd jump on this one.

I never doubted that the rails were brass (with patina). In the actual shot seen in the film, they definitely have a brassy look.

I know a lot of people like having real copper necks and rails on their replicas, which gives them a cleaner and more consistent look, but the actual screenused prop clearly had a copper-painted aluminum neck and brass rails.

Nope, apparently not.

I've made both copper and brass top rails, and the brass looks more correct.

I've also NOT been able to find any copper angle from K&S, for whatever that's worth. They have WAY more shapes in brass and aluminum than copper.

Once the brass oxidizes and gets its natural patina, it'll look exactly like the more recent pics of the Hero prop.
