NEW Latex TESB YODA HEAD

H,mm i have used this latex base on countless heads over the years and never had a problem, i now use pax as a base, as it is more durable, it does have a gloss finish as pax does, i find when i add the airbrushed layers and the final sealer this does away with any unwanted shine, but with a lot of stuff some sheen is needed.
Nice work by the way., i found some cool close up shots of the yoda puppet if you need them

If you want to be able to erase areas of paint and have more creative scope, I strongly suggest just using fine layers of Acrylic paints over latex that has already been pigmented like the head at the start of this thread. ;)

I saw this Yoda (pictured below) a few years ago... If what Nick Maley has to say is true, the head is way oversized :unsure

Cyb.,

Looks like a photo taken in Stuart Freeborn's workshop in 1979.
SUPERB work Cyb.
Can't wait to see him with eyes, paint and hair.

Thanks guys :)

I'm intending on finally getting round to putting together my full figure Yoda over the Xmas period when I'm not so busy with other things lol... Can't wait to see how it looks all painted up with hair added.

I need to choose which coloured foam head is the best to use... Which one would you say guys - left or right?

On the subject of scaling... Nick Maley told me that the head was sculpted around Frank Oz's hand and forearm. He also said that the foam was approximately half an inch (12mm) thick at the narrowest point around his arm in the neck area of the puppet head and the finger tips were half an inch away from the surface inside the eyebrows and a full inch away from the surface of the lips. Also the eyes I used are the correct sized eyes produced by Cantor and Nissel who made the originals.

Go with the Right head. The color of the Left head is too vibrant/saturated and would need to be dulled down.

How much is it for a pair of those Cantor & Nissel eyes?

I'd still say left, as you can see the underlying color is a more vibrant light green, drybrushed over that with the color of the right head.

But your choice, of course. :thumbsup

I´d also be interested in a set of the correct eyes.

Always thought they were hand painted?

3 years ago they were 81pounds.. Not sure how much they are now.

This image shows us how many variations of how this piebald green colour scheme appears on screen...

I think the left side looks best.

Lot's of variation depending upon the puppet, the media it is being viewed on and so on but to my eye, the left head is a good base for weathering and toning down with watery brown and black washes.

Great comparison BTW Cyb.

There were a few puppets made for empire so there are bound to be colour variations

I still say your gonna need a basecoat on there, foam latex needs to be sealed if you want it to last a few years, but differences of opinion are what makes this place so fun to visit :p
