New FX Lightsabers with REMOVABLE BLADES

I've used wax paper with good results.

Good to know.

I managed to pick up some of the cellophane, and the results are satisfactory. My guess is even though there's three LEDs, they're still a bit underpowered. I read somewhere about someone using more "wraps". I'm guessing it provides for a more solid color but it doesn't do anything for the brightness. Right?

They didn't need to design a removable blade. We had it all designed and debugged waaay back when I was there. We were planning to re-release all of the sabers with removable blades. All Hasbro has done is add their name to the box and make millions of dollars off of all of our years of research and development.

I've been wondering about this since it was posted. Clearly the FX technology wasn't just handed over to Hasbro. Whoever the financial entity was (MR, Corgi, whatever) that held the rights to the technology saw some gain from the transfer. Somebody got paid, right?

It sounds like a little bitterness talking, and perhaps rightfully so, but I don't think Hasbro is getting a "free ride". I'm sure they've paid for both the license and the technology.

Interesting...heard about this long ago.

I wonder if the blades will be interchangeable for ease of swapping colors?

The blades are not interchangeable. Here's a quote from my blog:

These sabers are not interchangeable. The funny thing is that someone from the crowd asked ina Q&A session, at Toy Fair this year, to one of Hasbro’s representatives if the blades were interchangeable and they didn’t knew how to answer, they didn’t knew their product well enough apparently. Later the same day, a photo was taken of one of the representatives checking out one of the lightsabers to see if they would come out. Big fail.

It's about freakin' time!
Wish these could have been developed with this feature from the beginning!
Maybe sometime down the road the hilts will be accurately sized too!

Glad to see this happen, I just began purchasing a few fx sabers off locals in my area. Picked up a Darth Maul Dual for $120 new and a Vader for $60. I've been in search of a few others and have seen them on ebay but they are always ridiculously overpriced. Hope these will start bringing them down. Way back when I worked for bestbuy, we clearanced the Luke and Vader fx sabers for $50 each. Hoping to see some around this xmas for clearance prices again.

They each have different locking mechanisms and the hilt electronics recognize the blade.

There are different depths of blade security based on how hard they might be hit (i.e. the darth maul has the deepest.)
oops, flood of posts.

I don't care, I'd still get one for me and my son. Don't think they could handle full on contact, but it would still be fun for what it is.

I was answering the interchangeable blade question actually. :thumbsdown

I was referring to the general consensus that they aren't going to be accurate or 'functional'.

Nothing against you personally.:thumbsup

Yeah, personally, I am waiting for one of the better designs. I'd prefer Luke ANH or even a new design.

QUI GONN'S LIGHTSABER!! We already know they can make the sound boards small enough to make an accurately sized qui-gon (at least in terms of width and length. The grooves in the grips however will deffinitely have to be tweaked like the parks version or the Obi TPM by hasbro.

I still hope they do the highly unlikely Vader Revenge of the sith.
