New Found Part

A little something new for everyone...

Chris Trevas (Lonepigeon) and I were up at COSI last week to confirm a find I had made a little while ago. In working to dress out my IG-88 head / flame tube I had been looking for little bits to put in the holes going halfway around his head. (see the photo from Visual Dictionary below) I remembered seeing similar pieces growing up so I went diggin in my Dad's basement. Sure enough... Found just what I was looking for. Trevas and I sat down and as soon as we compared them to a few photos of IG-88 we knew we had the correct piece.

IG-88 from Visual Dictionary (6 of the pieces)

They are a coax connector type PL-259. Actually they are only the inner part of the connector.

It doesn't stop there... We figured it would make sense that they used the parts elsewhere in prep for Empire so we started looking. Sure enough...

They are around FX-7 just above his side arm ring... (8 of them actually) These don't have the knurling but it is the same piece just a different manufacturer probably.

There is one on one of the antennas of the Portable Scanner from Hoth:

And there is one on the bottom of 2-1B's mouth. (the part with the knurling and holes is cut off but the short threads and smooth section are clearly there and are what the tubing is plugged into.

That is all we have found for its uses in Empire but if you come up with more places that they are post it.

Now if we can only figure out what those eyes are on IG-88 I'll be set.

I could be wrong but I think that's also the nozzle of Boba Fett's ESB flame thrower:

Great Scots - this is Awesome Bateman.

I knew they looked familiar, but I don't think I would have figured it out.

IG 88 is my Baby. You guys we'll get to see my lifesize version:eeK (In about 15 years :lol ).

Where do we find these buggers? Just an electronic store.

I went to a scrap yard last weekend looking for stuff and they had some old car/ truck transmissions. I think IG 88's stomach / abbs has very similar characteristics. Any thoughts???

I am such an electronics nerd I have a few in my parts drawers now. Good thing I was into CB radio in the 70's and 80's.
