New Elstree Studio documentary with discarded Graflex.

Roy thank you for doing this! I had a feeling they were bigger and angled weirdly (this new second set)

So I may be asking a dumb question, but has this toe pic/Tunisia graflex been seen on screen yet? (Now that we have very big tells) or is that shot lonepidgeon posted not a BTS shot and from the film?

It's all confirmed! The uncropped image is the shot of Luke and Ben looking down at Mos Eisley. It's the Tunisia belt-hanger.

The smaller rivets match up to the promo image where rivets are visible, which is the same saber as the toe pic.

This image we're looking at also shows the wider d-ring bracket in the elstree style.

It is still weird that they used 2 different sizes rivets but I'm quite certain the ones on the left are smaller than the 3mm rivets.

Have you done a model with all of the rivets being the 3mm size? That might be interesting to see. The D-ring bracket rivets are 3mm, right? If so, having all 6 rivets on the prop being 3mm would make a lot of sense... although, when has making sense ever had a place in Star Wars props?

I did it with this view. I'm not convinced.:

See, I’m in the other camp. The render of the 2.4mm rivets shows them not touching, when they should be. Larger rivets would touch.

Here is a lightened version of the picture. Rivets touching and grip covers almost to the hole in the middle.

The thing is, there doesn't appear to be enough space between the grips where the possible 2.4mm ones sit for 3mm to even fit. They intersect the grips in Roy's image. The grip looks off-center to me, with just enough room for 3mm on one side and 2.4mm on the other.

The grip doesn't appear to be overlapping in the photoshoot pic, so either we're not seeing one of them clearly or we're back to having two hero sabers with slightly different construction.

Do you think the foot of the t- track has anything to with it as Roy has the widest flat bottom to the t- track?

The one and only conclusion I can draw from the available information is that they were worried about the aluminum d-ring bracket and/or the bottom tube’s thin brass not being able to handle the rigors of filming and hanging/bouncing from a belt.

That's the first thing I thought of, because that happened to one of my Graflexes. The bottom plate popped right off.

So let's get this straight.

For the ANH Graflex, we'd need to drill 2 holes in the bottom for the D-ring holder, and another 4 holes (that we know of so far) on the lower half for the rivets between the grips.

Yes. Although it's not so certain yet how big these holes are! My conclusion so far: D-ring two 3mm rivets, bottom side: two 2.4mm on left of the grip and two 3mm on the right.

The rivets on the saber (facing us) look very similar to the ones on his belt. The two on the left look to be more dome shaped, like it's a different type of rivet. Size aside.

Wonderful discovery!

I would say the facing rivets in the Tunisia photo are bigger. They don't sit flat and appear to big for the spacing unlike the left rivets. I'm not seeing any tells of 2 rivets being on the bottom. Can anyone explain?

After we saw the Esltree clip has two rivets we took another look at photos of the hero(es). There are pics in post 219 of this thread: New Elstree Studio documentary with discarded Graflex.
