New Elstree Studio documentary with discarded Graflex.

I'd reckon you can't see them in that photo because they are behind his shin. No amount of brightening is going to make them appear.

Yeah, there’s like, a super-duper teensy bit of the space where a rivet MIGHT be there in that image, but it’s in deep shadow.

This is ridiculous, and very exciting!

These new attachments (second set) seem almost flattened, or squashed, compared to the little domed rivets that we initially found.

Well doing a quick and dirty little mock up based off of Roy's fantastic 3D model, it really seems like they could very easily be mostly (if not completely) obscured by his shin.

Okay, that clears things up nicely. It’s hard to tell just by eyeballing it, after all.

So, as it stands, the screenused prop has four rivets, and the toe pic saber LIKELY does, but this can’t (yet) be confirmed.

I just ordered another set of rivets from Roy...

Also, I have to ask...how sure are we of the timeline for the publicity photos? I was not entirely convinced that any or all of them were post-production (except, of course, for the Bob Seidemann stills). Is it possible that they’re pre- or early-production, and that the second set of rivets was added to the toe pic saber during location filming? The “new” set of rivets does look bigger than the ones we already knew about. Maybe they were an emergency, on-set addition.

I'd say most publicity stills are at least post Tunisia. They could be late production instead of post. Definitely not post Death Valley filming because I'm pretty sure Luke's Tatooine belt was gone after that (IIRC the story behind it ending up in private hands).
His belt, especially the buckle, is well worn in the publicity shots. There are at least a couple different photo sessions though because Hamill's hair is styled differently in some (I don't mean the post car accident ones either). In one set his hair is very feathered and the other it's much more flat.

PS - The pic I posted is full res. There is nothing larger.

Can you post it uncropped? I want to know which image I have been staring at for years and totally missing the rivets on.

Mind = blown.

I’m willing to bet that all four...um...mounting implements are identical, and that there’s just glare from the sun distorting/blowing out the image and warping the contours in the Tunisia photo. Using two rivets on one side and flathead screws on the other seems just a liittttllle too sloppy, even for a production legendary for cobbling junk together to make iconic props.

And Christian and his Robertson screws can go rivet themselves!

Once I install four of Roy’s new rivets, the final piece in my replica’s puzzle will (hopefully) be the “114A/63” stamped sidebar from TGS.

The only other remaining mysteries regarding the iconic ANH saber will be:

1) The orientation of the endcap stamping.

2) Whether or not the bunny ears were glued in place to stop them from rattling.

3) Whether there was indeed an internal core piece that the rivets were sunk into, and what it was made from.

4) Why the upper half was turned around for the publicity photos.

I think we’ve finally locked down pretty much everything else. Unbelievable.

But you’re forgetting the other two screws or rivets are much larger than the other ones.

Are they, though? Or is it sun-glare/optical illusion? We need Roy to superimpose his model over the image, because I think we’re seeing bigger screws/rivets than are actually there.
Yeah we need Roy for this I agree

It should also be noted that the “overlooking Mos Eisley” scene was the second day of shooting which involved the Graflex prop, and was only a few days into the production. The very first day featuring the Graflex being when they filmed Luke returning to the burning homestead.
