I'll say this ... When you posed the question, I looked at the photo and immedately saw a damaged s-curve, without any context as to what you were even referencing.

As exciting as the last few days have been, we need to stick to the evidence and facts that we have, and not suddenly start seeing dents and pairs of rivets everywhere. A little scientific method goes a long way. Revise theories to fit new facts, but don’t distort existing evidence to fit new theories.
Nobody is distorting anything. But it’s worth pointing out possibilities. If they are valid, they get investigated and are proved or disproved based on the evidence at hand. That’s what this forum is about isn’t it? If every new idea is just dismissed out of hand then nothing new will ever be discovered.
When I first saw the clip for the D ring it reminded me of the Graflex camera mounts that the handle attaches to the camera, one end clips in but the other is fixed to the camera body, and they have double hole mounts. On clearer inspection those do not match as the holes are too far apart. However I do still have a spare tab from a graflex camera that I may cut and shape this way and use the double pop rivet. They used some very thin stuff there to make that clip. Is that rust on it, or grime. Look aluminum, Coke can lol?
Not sure if anything has been said so forgive me if it has. The d ring clip is fixed on and covers the area between "th'E' and stops just on the 'H' in Rochester. I only have a RR replica Folmer bottom, and I know there are other Folmer bottoms that turn a little further from memory and have different stamping. Just messing around with the clip placement on my replica it does not match the Toe pic position. Can anyone confirm if it does match up with the different Folmer bottoms stamping to the toe pic.
I don’t know if that would work, since all the standings were randomly orientated. If each stamp while being made was stamped in the same exact location I think your on to something

The different D-ring clip material, unconventional D-ring placement, double rivets and the weathered bubble strip somehow seem convincing. I still need to spend time to digest and to read all this, but I never thought I would ever see this during my life! I think I'm hyperventilating!

roygilsing, now that you’re here, can you use your old Graflex and d-ring clip model and adjust it to new specs for a slightly off center clip?
I agree with this a lot. All opinions and theories are good to try to complete this puzzle. Sadly the saber isnt coming from a crew member, so we dont have an starting point on how it was exaclty used. . And all posibilities are there. We only know two facts. Its was built around february and march 1976, and it was found discarded around february to april 1977. The filming wrapped in ELstree in July 1976. Its a whole year of posibilities. The damage and alteriarions could had been made, preproduction, while filming or in postproduction, for any reason we still dont know.
So all opinions are so welcome.

I want to say - considering the theme of not having tons of multiples (recycling props) The bubble strip could very well be from ANH filming. Thats the only one I've ever seen attached to a graflex after the movie. The thin knurled button could also be from the stunt sabers, but that's a lower % probability.
I know these are not unique parts and many can be found (like going and getting another calculator) but other than buying up more graflexes for ESB, I don't see that behavior with other things.
The lower half obviously had 7 grips super-glued on. The upper is a very old Graflex model, and so is the Skywalker Ranch Saber, though that's just a cool coincidence.
So far still thinking they cobbled this one together for a non-hero use.
