NEW BSG BLACKBIRD !

Gone but not forgotten.
Well, another project is slowly coming into completion so I figured IÂ’d
post up a few images to show what IÂ’ve been up too.
Since I prefer to stick with my favourite of 1/24th scale models
I decided to tackle the BLACKBIRD from the new
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series.

Ok, IÂ’d better start off by pointing out ONE important
thing just so folks know, if your looking for a replica of the
FULL SIZE BLACKBIRD from the show this AINÂ’T IT.
I chose to make my model from the CGI ship as
I liked the design much more. You will notice
overall that it IS the Blackbird, they just tweaked bits
here and there to give it a more “cobbled together” look…

(Hey, after all, a bunch of deck hands MADE HER :p Â…LOL...)

All images are ones IÂ’ve just been snapping here
and there during the course of construction.
IÂ’ll be posting up more as I go, but this should give
you something to think about in terms of whatÂ’s to come.

Ok, a few details. The ship will have a full cockpit interior AND a Starbuck
Pilot to go into the cockpit.

{Starbuck you folks MAY recognize as sheÂ’s from
the Frank and Moe MK.II Viper. Yes, I have FrankÂ’s permission. ;) }

This is the FIRST time I have ever made a complete
cockpit and canopy and IÂ’ll tell you itÂ’s not nearly
as easy as I thought it would be.
But, like all things, itÂ’s turned into a learning experience.

Also, the model will have a full set of landing gear, and custom base.

{More on the Base LATERÂ…he he..} :D

So, enjoy the photos, and there WILL be more updates coming soon . :thumbsup

I've been waiting for someone to make this. Fatastic job. I can't wait to see it assembled and painted.

DAG NAMMIT KIP.

I haven't yet found the money for neither the Raider or the Base Star, and then you give me this.

I guess it's another one for the wishlist. :angry

Naaaaa, just kidding. It's awesome. I've been waiting for someone to do this one.

Cheers

WOW ... Put me down for one now ............................

Was there a big difference between the 1:1 scale and the CGI version?

" " Was there a big difference between the 1:1 scale and the CGI version?" "

Well, not exactly a BIG difference in the two.... Theres a fuselage
and two engine pods.... :p

Seriously, there's MANY small differences, the engines most
notably. I'll be posting pictures in the comming weeks to show
all the " greeblies " there... Believe me, there are TONS of small
details that the CGI guys put into " thier " Blackbird that are not in
the full scale mock up.. From the different people I have chatted with
it was mostly a BUDGET thing there... :(

Even though I hated that ship when I first saw it, it's grown on me. It had a such a short life but when it blowed up it blowed up really good. I can't wait myself for this kit because it looks fantastic so far.

I don't remember the ship being destroyed on the series. How did that happen?
[/b]

Apollo was in it....it was when he almost died because of a hole in his pressure suit...and at the last minute was rescued by a raptor. I think he was hit by a raider. It blew up pretty good :D

Dang...that figure does look like Stabuck to me. WOW.

Well, time for a wee-bit more of an update . :D

I've been humming along getting allot of the "smaller"
parts hammered out now. TONS of tiny detail parts
on this BIRD that need to be done yet but you get an idea
of where things are from the following images.. :D

First up, the MEAT of any ship, the ENGINES .

These ended up taking me longer then I would have liked.
MAINLY becuse theres so much too them..

Image13t.jpg

Lot's and LOT'S of tiny plumbing
{ for lack of a better work... :p }
that's attached to each engine..

As you can see, I only have a "bit" of those plumbing pieces
attached to show in a side by side what I'm talkin' about... :love

When completed, those plumbling parts will warp around the rear of each engine
and give it a very nice " cobbled together " look to it... B)

Image14tf.jpg

Last image is a completed engine assembly with engine arm that
mounts the engine to the fuselage all laid out...

Image1r.jpg

Again, just the MAIN pieces as each engine will have about
16-18 parts and many of them VERY tiny. :eek

I'll be posting more as I get further along.. So far though, EVERYTHING is comming
together nicely and all my castings look much better then I had hoped .

:thumbsup

Incredible work.... :eek Put me down for one of these beauties please. Is it in scale with Frank and Moe's Mark II?

Cheers

That looks great so far. I just got done watching it's inagural episode, and I've really come to like it's design. I assume it's going to be christened the "Laura" as well? It would be cool if you could even include everyone's signatures on the engine pod as well. :thumbsup

Thanks for the kind words... :$

As for the scale, it's 1/24th so you can easily display
it next to the Frank & Moe Mk II as well as the upcomming
MK7.... Not to metnion it would be right at home with
Jesses Raptor and my own Raider.... :D

And yup, it will come with a detailed decal sheet
from JT GRAPHICS that will include " LAURA " for the
nose art as well as a art for the Engine Nose with all
the deck gangs signatures...

:D

Sounds fantastic. I still owe you some shots of Helo and Boomer Wolvster...sorry..forgot. Ill try to do that tonight (can you please PM me your email addy again )
