New Batman: Arkham game due this year?

Well, the reason it's a prequel is that apparently RS is working on the sequel, which looks to be out 12ish months after origins. Can't do two sequels in that span. My guess is this is just a keep it in the public eye thing that they hope no one will realize that that's the point.

If it's all new missions and all new interiors - and it has the same length - i'm definitely up for it. If it's rehash and a fraction of AC, then that'd be bad.

The combat itself was very much the same between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. However, Arkham Asylum took place largely indoors, whereas Arkham City gave you a whole cityscape to play with. My recollection was that Arkham City was MUCH larger than Arkham Asylum was. You got new gadgets and moves, too. Plus you got a ton of side missions to complete in addition to the usual collection quests. Arkham Asylum was a much larger-scale game on the whole than Arkham City was. It built upon what the former did.

But honestly, watching the gameplay in this, it looked like even the same maps taht we played in Arkham City. Like, there was one walkway between buildings and I was thinking "I've glided past that plenty of times already..."

Look at it this way. Arkham Asylum was to Arkham City what Assassin's Creed 1 was to Assassin's Creed 2. A smaller version of a very similar game.

This game appears to be more like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, which didn't really add a ton to the game, but simply continued the same gameplay. Moreover, the story itself, while possibly cool, is a prequel, and dammit I'm sick of prequels.

What was I looking for? Obviously, it'll be very similar in terms of the core gameplay, but I was looking for considerably different settings, and much more expanded gameplay.

I mean, ok, the game may be cool, but it seems a very...timid step, and I'd much rather see the storyline moved forward. Killing the Joker at the end of Arkham City was amazing. Adding in Robin for single player was a nice touch. I'd like to see more expansion on that kind of thign. What happens to the city in the wake of the Joker's death? And I'd like to see future games give a range of playable characters, including Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman, not as DLC, but as part of the main storyline.

So, like I said. Worth $30? Yah, probably. Worth $60? Nope.

I can see what you're saying...I just don't see it in such a negative light...It looks like they've added some to the fighting methods, and added different areas to explore as well...The city will be the same, of course...It's Gotham City..Just not damaged and cut off this time out eh? So yeah, there'll be scenery that you've seen before..Undoubtedly...But I still can't see the negative in that...If the game has those scenes, then good...They've stayed true to the other two games...As for how big the gaming zone will be...Well, we don't know yet...But I'd heard that there'll be a fast travel system, so I'd expect it to be somewhat bigger than Arkham City....Which would mean it's closer to the whole of Gotham...Again, all good I think...

I can also see what you're saying about "a timid step", but I'd disagree....It looks like they're building on one of the best games ever (Arkham City) and have updated enough of it to be of interest as a separate game this time out...The new tools indicate that..And we've only seen a few of them so far...So I'd expect that...(They'll want to hide the majority of changes until closer to release date...Those'll be the pull in's..)...So I don't really see it as being a "timid" step, but I can agree that it doesn't "advance" the story....And I was sad that it wouldn't continue where the last one ended...

That said, I think a "Batman Year One" type story is always fun...There's a little more room for moving there...And the Joker's still alive...So...I don't really see the negatives in this game so far...It looks exactly what one would expect from Batman - Arkham Origins.

I reckon...(But I see what you mean....Just happen to disagree...)

I just started Arkham City again after a year and didn't realize how much i missed in it. Does anyone know of Paul Dini is the writer on this? At least if he is we'll have a good story.

Ok, it's a prequel, it is what it is. They wanted or felt they needed the Joker to sell the game. I disagree, but who am I. My point is, look at the new 52 Batman. The story of the court of Owls was excellent. My point is there are other villains out there that can give Batman a run for their money.

I agree. Heck even in the first 2 games the joker wasn't the main attraction, they kinda used him as the glue that brought in all these other characters. There are plenty of other villains they could do this with and only have the joker appear at the very end after he falls into the vat.

Well Conroy isn't batman but he is in the game doing a voice and the kid who was two face is doing joker and apparently it's pretty spot on. I'm still going to get it just because conroy is in it but this is going to hurt sales to real fans.
Arkham Origins brings back Joker, but not Mark Hamill | GamesRadar

He could voice older batman thinking back i guess. Then you get the clowns in the comments who act like new actors to iconic characters is no big deal and even had the gull to mention the terrible Ledger joker.

Terrible Ledger Joker? Were we watching the same film? Gotta disagree with you on that one my friend. It's not Mar Hamill's version, but it's not terrible by any means. An outstanding performance.

Where can I hear him doing the Joker voice?? Or batman for that matter too. I wanna hear them.

Me too that link i have mentions that they got to hear it but i can't find a link anywhere else. I'm assuming maybe they saw more at e3? Troy Baker who is doing Joker did a really good Two Face. Personally i'd like to see them get more of the animated series actors.

If you just go on youtube and search for Arkham Origins there was an extended game play from E3 that showed a lot of back and forth from the joker and batman.

Entirely agreed..."Terrible"? Hmmm..I disagree entirely.....Ledger's Joker was spot on...Absolutely brilliantly acted, menacing, threatening, and at the same time lighter and just one step from entirely insane....I love Mark Hamill's Joker voice too....And Jack Nicholson's too....All for different reasons and aspects of the character, but I'd not call Ledger's version anything other than "exceptional"...

I didn't like the new batman films to start with other than the Tumbler so i'm probably biased and i wasn't a fan of ledger either. Now Conroy's wiki says that he's not in this game at all. There's so much conflicting stuff that i have no clue what's going on. He apparently tweeted he was going to be in another arkham game after this one but that tweet got taken down.

Apparently they started a prequel before the sequel got started and he's in the sequel. I'm sure the publisher had him yank it so people would buy the current game and not hold out for the true sequel.

I expect it'll sell fine because it's a Batman game, it'll have a kewl CGI fight sequence trailer, and..um....it's a Batman game.

FWIW, i don't think the arkham games would have been worse without conroy and hamill, the gameplay sells it. However, it was much cooler that it was them.

Agreed with the comment from cboath...

It's a nice touch to have Conroy and Hamill doing the voices on the first two games..But I don't buy games for the voices (except for Bond games perhaps, and they're all crap, so they NEED the vocal talent..LOL)...So I don't think this'll impact at all on the sales for the game..What makes them exceptional is the gameplay and the story...The voices are just another bonus...Cool, but not the only thing to the game...

And that's from ME...A nut about Batman....Most people who aren't as interested won't even notice the differences I suspect...

Bingo. The folks who buy this for the voices are are a tiny minority. The majority won't even notice.

I agree with this....Dini's work has been exceptional in the games, and the story works largely due to the "authenticity" of Dini......I suspect the same thing could be done with a writer who was "as involved" in Batman as Dini has been, but it would be somewhat harder to write a story involving the fans to such a degree if you hadn't been able to write for DC before...

That's a bigger pull for me than Conroy's voice, as much as I love Conroy....Get the story right and the fans will love the game no matter what happens...Get the voice talent wrong and...Not much really changes...

I love the voices on the first two...But I can live with that....No decent story? I'd be pissed....LOL..

I suspect that's the case with a fair majority...We'll see eh?
