New Alsa wrap material, chrome effects wraps and other colors

Just and FYI for everyone, I just posted this the Cap shield paint thread, but this stuff is great for use for dozens of application. I'm currently doing a costume for a theatrical production that requires large scale scale male armor, and I'm using this stuff and it makes the scales look real and 3 dimensional all while keeping the weight down to the weight of a normal cotton shirt.

This stuff could be used to laminate 3d printed props, any vacuum props or mold props to get a metallic or chrome look... not to mention all the finishes they have like carbon fiber and such. I could see prop guns using this stuff, prop hammers, swords, and axes, medieval armor, Ironman armor, storm trooper armor, etc...

I don't work for these guys either, nor am I invested, lol... this stuff is just great.

Alsa Corp | Chrome Film

or

Alsa Corp | Strech Chrome Film

curious if anyone else has experience with this stuff.

I'd love to know more myself. I have a few things I could see me chroming.

Hell, this might lead to me buying a HALO helmet just to have a blinged out Master Chief :lol

Thanks for the links!
Chris

That looks the part! I'd love to wrap my car in the blue chrome... Think of all the Daft Punk helmets you could wrap with this. Chroming just got a lot cheaper!

I've got some in the basement I haven't tried yet (was on sale), but I have covered a laptop in the carbon fiber version of the stuff. A little bit thicker than I thought it would be, and needs to be warmed up to conform to a curved surface. Not sure how it would work on the compound curves of a helmet, but if I get some time I may try to chrome an Iron Man face plate.

I think you are thinking of the FX sheeting... that sounds exactly like it, a bit thicker, and needed heat to curve. Not this new stuff... only 4 mils thick, and it stretches in your hands... They still offer the thicker stuff too.

How does it handle detail? For instance, a scribe line in the surface. Would it show through or just cover it?

I had a look at this when deciding how to chrome my Daft Punk helmet - I read a couple of blogs where the person using it found it hard to stretch it over curves without it wrinkling / bunching up. I'll have a look and see if I can find the images that dissuaded me against buying it.

Edit - here's the photo that put me off:

From a detailed thread at a car mod forum. I went for a spray chrome in the end, which I was very happy with.

Still, I'd be interested to see what the results are if anyone here tries it.

Nope - not the FX sheeting. I've been using their Zig Zag film. Don't get me wrong, it's great stuff; warming it up just lets you form it around complex curves a little better. The nice thing about the film is you can peel it back to get rid of bubbles and it can be laid right back down, since it doesn't leave any residue.

I'd like to try their Killer Chrome product at some point too; it looks great on the web site.

I recognize the guys name who posted that. He's really into spray "chrome".

Also, if that is a legitimate attempt to put the film on, then he needs some instruction on how to apply. That surface isn't complicated.

Cool - well, I'm happy to be persuaded that it's a good solution. I've got another daft punk helmet project on the go, and if the chrome wrap works as well IRL as it does on Alsa's website, I'd love to try it.

Well, I got in touch with Alsa to see if I could get some of this sent to the UK to try it out.

They said it'd cost $200 - $300 for shipping! For 10 feet of the stuff. Crazy. I guess I'll have to wait until there's a UK distributor, there's no way I'm paying $300 to have $80 worth of material sent out.

Well done for trying, Arktic. Let's hope they sort a UK distributor.
