Nerf Gun Props? YES!

I made a dual maverick holster for mine on my Green Lantern outfit. I used a small toy pistol which had a plastic holster, cut it apart and used it as a pattern, after upsizing it.

Note, a holster for them is HUGE, extending almost to my knee!

But seeign two lit up TRU clear green mavericks on a green lantern outfit put it over the top for people who saw me at dragoncon.

That is not a bad suggestion. The problem is, I already have a pistol belt and gear all set up, so I was just looking for a holster. This looks like it could be easily modded however. More food for thought!! Thank you!

1st, what colors and finishes are you using the most of, what colors work best as accents or "aging/antiquing", etc. I only ask so many questions because like I said, experimenting with paints and colors could get expensive here. After I made that post, I contacted a huge art store that assures me he carries ANY type of paint, in spray or brush-on.

2nd, Tried that. I found out paints, being combustible and hazardous, require special certs and permits to be shipped into Korea. For companies, not so difficult. All but impossible for individual consumers. But thanks for the suggestion!

I can talk to you more about this in a PM, but I hope you understand that I have spent all that research money you mentioned, learning what works and what doesn't. I personally never looked for other people's ways of painting because they always seemed to be using stuff I didn't have accessable to me locally. Same kinda issue you have, but I'm certain you could go a long way on what paints are available. Just start with the stuff you REALLY like and keep cost down to a minimum. I think my last paint bottle count was in the 150-200 range, hehe. (yes, quite a bit of custom blends and also duplicates)

More photos coming momentarily. Just gotta go on a toad hunting expedition with my kids and I'll get the photos up :)

a quick photo of Mal's Pistol by Wilco (inaccurate handle, but very nice for a 1-piece kit).

Here are some things I've been working on between the bigger projects. Hope you guys find something you like :)

Gotta get started on that really cool Terra Nova pistol Jonny B's making in his thread here on RPF!

Getting really close on this one..

Overdue for posting some of the guns I've been working on. I bought a bunch of guns and went on a bit of a tear. I did a half a dozen guns and I think I have it out of my system now. It was fun, but I'm going to move on to other prop/costume stuf.
I'll post more pics of the rest of the guns soon (including one I don't think anyone has modded yet!), but for now, here's one I'd been wanting to make for a long time:

It was inspired (ripped off?) from a well-known Longshot that a person called meandmuch did. You can find pics of it pretty easily with a google search. I liked it so much I had to make one.
Basically a Longshot with recon barrel, which is then extended. (I actually made a second one that looks even better because I used meandmuch's idea of replacing the bipod with a real machine gun bipod, but I haven't taken photos of it yet. I will soon).

The barrel is a screw on piece of galvanized pipe with a pvc tip, and has to be removed before the gun can be fired.

Funny thing is, as soon as I was finishing the gun (a couple of weeks ago) I logged on here and saw that JohnsonArms had just done basically the exact same gun. Great minds think alike I guess.

Paint was duplicolor automotive black primer, plus Rustoleum Desert Tan camo (I think) and then some black wash weathering, pewter rub n' buff weathering, then some special modeling dust in dark rust color mixed with earth brown (I think) and then clear coated.

Oh, I also like the way it looks with the butt stock moved in closer:

Fantastic job! Never consider it ripping someone off, I think we all borrow from other successful designs and bottom line is there are only so many Nerf parts to work with out there. Love the finish on the gun and let me know if you find a place selling reasonable bi-pods. I kept finding them at over $40 a piece. Yikes. Hehe

So this is my first post out of the "introduce yourselves" thread, but I wanted to show off the sidearm I made for my Halloween costume. Our theme was 'Steampunk Masquerade' and I painted a bunch of guns for the group.

A couple pistols for the girls, a double shot, a Lanard X-8, and this custom Night Finder for me. I call it "Von Bradwitz Quantum Disruptor".

Just a paper gauge, but I want to see what it will look like with a coat of clear gloss.

A close up of the switch for the UV LED. You can easily flip it with your thumb.

The tube is filled with a mixture of water and highlighter ink, and lit with a UV LED from below/inside.

Very nicely done! Love the LED lighting. Does the UV light make the green glow more like when you put highlighter liquid in the water? I'm wanting to give that a shot soon!

Yeah, the highlighter ink is UV reactive, so it really glows nice. It's hard to pick up in shots. The tube itself is clear, all the color comes from the ink.

It was a quick solution, but I want to work with other UV reactive liquids in different colors to see what variation I can get. I especially like how the bubble really shows it's fluid.

P.S. It's awesome to hear from you, as it's your multitude of amazing work that got me interested in the first place.

Thats very kind. I'm just trying to keep up with the other really talented people on this site. They also give me inspiration and that's a wonderful thing to have at our disposal :)

Awesome work with the LEDs guys! reading an indestructable article to learn about them now.

Heres my wip recon, not really feeling the color scheme as much as i thought i would. Oh well, plan to do my raider in black next, make it sort of a shotgun looking thing, cept that piece between the gun and the barrel magazine is impossible to get off, anyone know how?
