Re: NeoRutty's Prop Projects -Roman's Graflex TFA Wannawanga parts!

So since moving I've had little room for my props, so a lot of the incomplete projects have got go in storage.

Then one at a time I will take them out and complete it. No more of this 8 things on the go, never getting done crap.

THAT SAID... one of the projects I had was to build my brother a TFA Rey Saber out of Roman's Graflex and Roy's Wanawanga parts. I think I got a D-ring off a junkyard run (I believe a run that's happening again)

I took a long time to get it together, so I figured I'd put together a display of sorts. I went to Hobby Lobby in the US and got a couple of boxes - I think they were under 10 bucks each...

Stained it. Weathered it a bit. Painted the brass, black (Cuz actual brass black didn't work)

And so that's the way he's recieving it.

How much was Propshop's Rey Saber?

Cuz I'd rather have this any day.

Next up I should finish weathering my Han ROTJ Blaster

*All this stuff is so basic... but I'd want to see it, so.....

I love it El! Beautiful box.
Maybe you should weather the brass pins a bit; just stick the whole upper part in a jar with some ammonia for half an hour.

Brass fittings like that generally have a clearcoat on them - you'd have to remove that first before any chemical solutions would work.

Re: NeoRutty's Prop Projects -Roman's Graflex TFA Wannawanga parts!

Yeah I attempted to sand it brush then sand it off... never came out nice... just looked patchy (and not in a nice weathered way....)

I then sprayed them with flat black to hide it and looked great.

As for the box it's just a cheap box from Hobby Lobby, stained then weathered with black acrylic, then coated. Looks way better than I thought it would - though when you pick it up you realize how cheap it is. But then it's just for a display...

    - - - Updated - - -

Well with the saber I gave my brother the option and he wanted it pristine (Of course)...

but yeah, your clamp cover fit GREAT. holy crap I didn't think it would be that precise.

GIANT PICTURE DUMP! (and it will be a double post since this will go into the Obi Saber thread...)

I can finally say this is finished! (Well unless I find a booster with a weld and clear exactra... I'll take those, heh)

After my realtor threw out my exactra strip, I got a bit set back and then lazy about finishing after mugatu hooked me up with a new one..

So tonight I finally finished off the exactra and re-did my transistors to ones that looked better and matched. And that's it! It's finished.

I also had did one of those cheap boxes for myself when I made one for my brother. Looks good to me.

So thanks to teecrooz for helping me get started on all this - the grenade auction that started this all was one of the more thrilling moments in my life, ha.
    Edraven99 for the trades!
mugatu for hooking up the exactra.
Sym-Cha @Romansempire @Scuttjua @Jameskenobi for answering my queries as tried to find out all I could about this prop.

Thanks for the link, however they haven't specified the dimensions fully on the posts. I have asked for blueprints they made but yet to here :(.
I have made a CAD file and some brief drawings for emitter only, perhaps someone could check my dimensions and correct me where i'm wrong?

Well I measured my Roman's Empire BP ... which is based on a real female BP and on your second picture 39mm should be 40mm and the next 37mm should be 38mm. In your first picture 12.5mm should be 13.5mm ... as for the rest I don't have a digital caliper to measure those parts exactly but they seem pretty close. Hope that helps a bit Sam :)

Yes the rest in your second picture of the front were all accurate. As member teecrooz said previously there are tiny variations in the BP's he has, so most of your other measurements are good to go make a 3D model :)

Might I suggest creating your own thread when you start building your own OB1 ANH lightsaber ... it will certainly generate more members to chime in :)

Yes, remember these were made in a time that parts couldn't be made by CNC, but was made by humans and could have varied from batch to batch.

Thank you for your invaluable help! I might create my own thread, but I'll make sure I have all the dimensions prior to doing so.

Could you point me in the direction for getting some measurements for the brass part of the grenade? I'm trying to create 3d model but without knowing the blade thickness, threaded hole size and angle of blades it's proving a struggle?

Re: NeoRutty's Prop Projects -Obi All Authentic Parts COMPLETE Pic Dump.

These next 2 pictures should give you an idea of the complexity of the grenade and the brass section :

    (Russrep's grenade provided by parfaitelumiere)

The blade thickness has nothing to do with the width of the brass neck section of the grenade ... the blade of light is much wider than the neck. Here's a picture courtesy Howard to elaborate :

Alas I can not provide all the diameters at this time ... also I do have to express this is NeoRutty's Prop Projects thread, so I strongly suggest to start your own Work in Progress thread and I can almost guarantee other members/friends of mine will chime in to aid you with the accurate measurements you seek :)

Re: NeoRutty's Prop Projects -Obi All Authentic Parts COMPLETE Pic Dump.

    Hiatus is pretty much done!

As has been expressed by my stunned and shocked mind in other threads, I got to join the divorced men's club on the RPF and had to put getting life in order over painting the rails on a Luke ROTJ hero...

But this weekend will be the first I get into my boxes of props and see what I had on the go... Good a time as any since my dad's been asking for a Luke/Rey saber for his shelf to show his friends (I guess he really digs the hobby I'm into)

I'm currently in the boxes of my $$$ BIG INVESTMENT 90'S COMICS $$$ collection, and should have those done by the weekend. Once those boxes are cleared, I get knee deep in flashes.

Kind of a bummer that I have to put aside building a Gonk, Han in Carbonite, and the Deagostini Falcon due to space, but little props shouldn't be a problem.

I mean this apartment is TINY... I was in 2700 square feet, now down to 500. I had a garage! I was buying air brush equipment... a bench... drill press... was looking into lathes... 3D printers....

But now I'm back in the city... and I spent the last year making this tiny place a home - and figuring out how to display props in 500 square feet without it being overwhelming. I mean... you CAN have too many toys...

    (go to about 1:30)

I think somewhere in this thread are pics of my old basement prop/movie bar... I don't wanna look, heh.:cry

But here's the new places layout and display possibilities! First set of pics is from the balcony in...

Balcony view main wall.jpg Balcony view mid wall.jpg

The second set is from the doorway in...

front door view main wall.jpg front door view bar wall.jpg

    Bedroom...

    Bedroom.jpg

So as you can see, not a lot of room or shelf space.. .and most used up already.

The closet is FILLED with projects... resin kits... flashes... blasters.

    It's already looking cluttered.

I need my company to be big enough to warrant an office space... THEN I can start going nuts again.

As a side, non prop related build... I HATED my balcony... it was badly painted, covered in old bird crap, and they wouldn't do anything about it...

    So I built a deck!

    IMG_8493.jpg IMG_8494.jpg

Maybe need a weather-proof Dejarik table?

    - - - Updated - - -

Oh crap! I think I remember now.... I believe I even voted.

Man, the last year is a BLUR.

One more to go, so until then, I'm being a good little student, and studying till it hurts. Your post went to my email so I wanted to post a quick hello.

Haha. The TV was my immature (but awesome) response to my wife shrinking my TV down, step by step, til all I had was sitting in bed with my laptop. I did it to keep the peace as I tried to save my marriage.

    Didn't help.

First TV I bought after the fall out was a 50 inch... Then it hit me... "why in the world am I suffering with 50 incher, when I can do whatever I want without getting crap from a wife?"

Returned it and rolled in the 75 inch!

As for the obi... Only funny story is my buddy saw me melting down and offered to take all my props so I didn't throw them in a box, walk into the street and yell "who wants a bunch of crap!!!"

He did this because he heard that's what I did at work with all the stuff in my office. Which was true... but it really was just a bunch of crap*.

*Unless you're a guy who WANTs the blind jedi POP figure from Rogue One...people give me a lot of weird stuff.

Ha! Yep. Him and GNK are my faves. I have a little Gonk collection I have yet to make a diorama for, so they're in a shoe box.

Yoda was one of my first... My parents/grandparents had no idea what they were looking at, so I had Yoda, GNK, and like 4 Bib Fortunas.

My friends tried to tell me Yoda was a jedi master, but I didn't believe them. I only saw Jedi at the time, which made me think he was just an old lizard who died.

    "Nah he trained Luke!"

    "sure he did..."

So yeah, I was always stuck with Yoda and GNK while everyone else had Luke and Han figures.

Nostalgia kills all that. I was at a used toy store a decade ago and saw little Yoda in a ziplock in a bin and grabbed him. Other than my GNK's, he's the only figure I have.

Keep your chin up, I've had my fair share of curve balls lately (which is why I haven't been on here much either) and just keep plugging along. It always seems to work out one way or another, but never as fast as we'd like.

You've inspired me to get my few kenner action figures out that I've saved.

Alright! So I went through some of my boxes as my dad's been bugging me for a "Rey/Finn" saber to display at his place...

    I have two options... I have a Graflex and a Roman's Replica.

One will be a hero, and one will be the Maz box.

So poll time! (seriously just curious which you all would choose...)

Which flash should get made into which.

Graflex for the Hero with Roman's as the Maz box

    Or

Roman's for a hero, and the vintage Graflex as the Max box

AND FIGHT! - if there is a way to make a poll, I don't know it.

I'll be drilling the T-tracks into place... and of course the D-ring on back.

However this is now delayed as I have a build right now that's not Star Wars related I want to get done that has taken WAY longer than it was supposed to. I saw a tutorial on building a bat signal by a guy named "Cosplay Chris"... decided to do one for myself and my creative partner but make it a "Shark Signal" for the animated batman parody we do...

His Bat Signal was a one day budget build... but I decided to use his as inspiration and make a much more solid, well constructed version.... and it ate up the last couple of weekends.... and so far is not a budget build AT ALL.

    Priorities.

I think after this I'm gonna visit Edraven99 and check out his helmet as reference get my stormtrooper bucket done... That's taking up the most room in my closet right now.

Well my vote would have been keep the Graflex for the hero and the Roman for the Maz box version.
