Need urgent help -amazing spider-man 2 costume

I'm trying to put the zipper on the back of the costume where the spider logo is, so by keeping everything aligned. But the fabric, being stretchy by nature, twists, scrunched up or stretches too much, messing up my alignment work.How can I fix this? My last option is to sew it by hand.

Are you using a zipper foot on your machine?

You could also consider using double-sided tape instead of a basting stitch so that there isn't as much potential for the material to gather between stitches.

I am using the zipper foot.
But if I can find double-sided tape, I will definitely try that!
