need ideas on how to make fortress of solitude looking pedestals

Dear all,

I currently have a superman display torso on one pedestal.. .and since I'll hopefully be getting other superman props.. I thought it would be cool if I had pedestals around the current display torso displaying crystals and other superman props.

Either way, does anyone know how to make or where to get pedestals about 2.5-3 feet high that are white.. that look like the fortress of solitude?

Someone on this board posted a picture once of his display that had excellent diagonal pedestals.. whomever you are, can you please help me out?

Perhaps simply with some white big blocks of polystyrene ???

Something like this but longer?

I used Balsa foam. You can get a large block of it for $100.00. It comes double the size of the Indiana Jones Base I made. Very easy to sculpt the fortress on it.

If you look at screencaps from the first two films (including the donner cut of II) you can see the majority of the film pedestels are squared white acrylic (which containins lighting unit), the tops are then finished variously with clear or frosted acrylic blocks (which hold the crystals) and acrylic sheets/tubing for decor...hope to have a self made one completed sometime soon...awaiting hydins next crystal run shipment so my measurements are correct!

Thanks for all the help guys... I'm being adventurous.. and I bought approximately 10lbs of various sized selenite crystals. They are lightly frosted and when they are lit, they have a nice glow. I'll piece them all together with acrylic tubes and hopefully it'll make a nice display - one that is made out of real crystal... it's going to be a ***** though.. and I may have 10lbs of various sized paperweights soon

I just ordered acrylic tubes for both donner and returns crystals... I'll wait for those to get here - I should have waited for my hydin crystals to actually get here.. but I'm impatient and wanted to get started on this right away.

I have about 6-8 crystals coming from hydin.. so I figure my display will eventually be about 10" x 10" and anywhere from 7"-10" high.

If this doesn't work I think i"ll go the balsa foam way...

I have used selenite skyscraper tealight/votive holders before. You just cut the acrylic tube to the length you want and it fits perfectly in the pre-drilled hole of the votive. You can even light it from beneath and depending on where you place the light, you can light up the selenight base, the tube, or the crystal.

I can't wait to see how your display turns out. I will try to take a picture of the one I currently have been working on (still need to cut/sand/polish the tube to the correct angle and I'm planning on carving out a section on the side for a metal superman shield plaque).
