Need help with weathering.

I am currently working on a full body suit of foam armor and getting close to the painting step. I'm so excited. But, I've been thinking about how to weather the armor. To be honest, I don't have much experience with weathering techniques. I was thinking of doing something very subtle but scared about going overboard. Any advice would help a lot. Thanks.

Think of something like a stormtrooper who had cleaned his uniform. Nice looking and shiny yet if you look close you can see some wear and tear. Subtle weathering and staining.

You can do a black wash by watering down black paint and brushing it all over 1 piece and then wipe all of it off. it gives it a kind of stained/Greasy look depending on how you use it. the more times you do it the more weathered it gets. If you want more instruction I would recommend checking out punished props/ Bill Doran on youtube
