Just wonering if anyone can assist with this. I have a dullam batman begins suit. It is not mounted to the under armor I have yet because I want to make sure it is right for the mannequin I get. This will be for display only and I don't intend on wearing it. I'm looking for a mannequin in a straight position, not posing or anything, that would fit this suit as close to perfect as possible, but if possible not too expensive. If any more info is needed on my end let me know. :confused

I've been looking into mannequins too and every one I've found has a rod coming out of the foot or calf which means you can't put pants or boots on them without cutting a hole in the garment or drilling a hole in the sole of the footwear.
Alot of the mannquins are skinny too. They average 6 feet to 6'2" but most only have a 38" chest.
If anyone knows where to find a free standing, somewhat muscular (size 42) mannequin, I'd be interested in info as well.

I usually just try to get one in the height and pose I want, skinnier the better because you can always add bulk. Padding and tape. As far as holding them up, I never used the leg rod, just some strong string to attach the manny to a wall so it won't fall over. I've only bought them on ebay.

I guess I may have to play with some different ideas. The boots are on there way, and i know they are tall so I'd hate to put a hole in 1 just for support. It sure is a long process, between finding all the parts as close to screen accurate as possible, and some molded right from the screen used parts to get it all together. All I really need now is a cape, but I feel I can display it without it and can just add that later on. It's amazing how much space this suit takes when its in all these different boxes. Thanks for the info, if anyone else has input feel free to chime in.:thumbsup

I thought piping would work, but how would I build it up? I've heard duct tape, but i think if use that for 1 it will be a ton of tape, and 2 very time consuming. If you or anyone know of any other ways to bulk it up, please let me know.

Not really, you just have to stuff it first then wrap the stuffing with duct tape; I used to do that sort of thing all the time when I was kid using masking tape and paper grocery bags. You could use any kind of stuffing you'd buy at a fabric shop or you could buy a bunch of cheap t-shirts, or even just paper.

I've got several mannequins an have suited them up in my 89 and Begins. The problem I find is that most of them have really long legs, which is somewhat of a pain. Of course, I fitted my suits to me, and it's hard to find a matching mannequin. There are some really good sellers on Ebay from New Jersey, I believe, where I've picked up a few. The best one so far has copper pipe elbows, so you can pose the arms slightly. Perfect height and works great for my '89 suit. I found a big muscular mannequin for the Begins, but even with the larger shoulders, the v3 armor shoulders are still wider and the biceps don't sit properly on the arms. The rest of the body works perfectly though.

The most important thing is to make sure there's LOTS of room in the armpit area. Many mannequins with their arms down to the side don't leave any gap, and the undersuit + armor usually ends up being very tight, even with a bit of a gap.

Here's a bad camera phone pic from the night I put it on the first time. You can see the arm problem, and because it's 6'4" the torso rides higher on the body than it does on me, showing the gap between leg armor and torso. In person, it's not very noticeable though - the camera's "enhanced" contrast pics up weird lighting.

(And yes, I know those boots aren't supposed to go with Begins. They're placeholders until the UDR boots arrive. :) )

There are two mannequin suppliers here near the Atlanta area.

Redbeau Mannequins
http://www.redbeaumannequin.com/
- They have an extensive online gallery, with prices. They also sometimes sell used mannequins.

and

Mannequin Mode
http://www.mannequinmode.com
They likewise have an extensive gallery online

And lastly, this guy on eBay has written some excellent guides to buying mannequins. Highly worth bookmarking for future use if you ever want a mannequin to display costumes: http://search.reviews.ebay.com/members/mannequinmadness_W0QQuqtZg

Good luck with your project, it sounds fun!
