Hi all,

Can any graphic gurus ID the font used on the back of the NCIS raid jackets? This is the only pic I have:

I can try to post my 'version' of a screen-grab (photo taken of the screen, lol), but I thought I'd go ahead and start this thread in case someone already knows what it is. It's hard to tell in this pic, but the font has a 30's art deco-ish feel to it, at least IMO.

Thanks in advance,

Art

Hey Art

The field jacket in which you speak of has two patches (that are both removeable) the first patch is the large NCIS FEDERAL AGENT patch that is located on the back of the jacket. The second patch is located on the front left side of the jacket, this patch is a NCIS Badge.

This jacket can be bought on Ebay for around $70 as this is where I got mine :cool

Thanks for the info on the eBay jacket, Rick. I've already got a raid jacket with no logos that I plan to use, so right now I just need to ID the font on the removable back "flap" so I can make mine. While the eBay jacket is nice, the font used is not exactly the one seen on the show.

Here is a better screen shot of the back panel and the patch on the front left panel.

I did have a crack at text for the back panel myself, the closest font I could find (that was installed on my computer) was lilyUPC and it's sized to fit a Dutyman raid jacket panel. It's not spot on correct (the letters aren't tall enough) but it's not far short, at least to my eyes.

Any geniuses of Photoshop want to have a go at recreating the patch for the front??

Interestingly, there is a second panel at the front on the right which reads

Naval
Criminal
Investigative
Service

I'm guessing in the same font as on the back. It's only been shown a couple of times on the show, but I've seen it on documentaries about the real life NCIS which leads me to believe that the jackets on the used show are real NCIS jackets, rather than being made by the costume department.

Hope this helps ;)

patches for the front used to be found online but i cant find any at the moment. Ive read the back is actually a vinyl application. Im getting a raid jacket myself and would like to have one made. Therefore im bumping this up

That's what it always looked like to me just like the lettering on the caps appear to be a vinyl application and not embroidery.

You may want to try identifont
Identifont - Identify fonts by appearance, find fonts by name

It has worked for me in the past, and you may come close enough (as TEEkay did) to manipulate it to your will with a font manipulation program. I have used Font Creator with great success manipulating a font for the same thing..........a back patch! Font Creator has a 30 day free trial. Good luck.
